I’ll be honest, this was one of the strongest PlayStation State of Play presentations we’ve had in quite some time.
Over the course of more than an hour, PlayStation packed in reveal after reveal, launch dates, fresh gameplay footage, and a few genuine surprises. By the time it wrapped up, my wishlist had grown significantly and my backlog anxiety had somehow gotten even worse.
While there was plenty to get excited about, three games completely dominated the showcase for me: Marvel’s Wolverine, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and the jaw-dropping reveal of God of War Laufey.
And honestly? 2026 is looking absolutely ridiculous.
Marvel’s Wolverine Finally Unleashes the Claws
This was the moment I’d been waiting for.
Marvel’s Wolverine is comfortably my most anticipated game of the year, and Insomniac Games delivered exactly what I wanted to see.
The new footage showcased a brutal and violent side of Logan that feels perfectly in line with the character. Combat looked fast, savage, and impactful, with Wolverine tearing through enemies in ways that definitely earned the cheers it received online.
We also got our first proper look at several key characters, including Jean Grey, who appears to be teaming up with Logan against the cybernetic mutant-hunting Reavers. Their combined abilities led to some spectacular takedowns that looked straight out of a comic book splash page.
The game continues to look darker, more mature, and far more aggressive than Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, which is exactly what I hoped for when the project was first announced.
Needless to say, I cannot wait.

God of War Laufey Was the Perfect “One More Thing”
Just when I thought the showcase had played all of its biggest cards, PlayStation dropped God of War Laufey.
The next chapter in the God of War universe shifts the spotlight to Faye, the legendary warrior and wife of Kratos. Rather than serving as a supporting figure in someone else’s story, she’s finally getting her own adventure.
The premise sounds fantastic. Death was supposed to be the end, yet Faye finds herself fighting through the afterlife of the gods in order to save the people she loves.
The concept alone opens up endless possibilities for new mythology, fresh combat ideas, and deeper exploration of one of the franchise’s most important characters.
This was easily one of the biggest surprises of the entire event.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Continues to Impress
I’ll admit it, I wasn’t expecting to be this interested in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
Every time the game appears, it looks better.
Today’s showcase revealed three new additions to the roster: Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage. Alongside Doctor Doom, they’ll form the Knights of Doom, who will play a major role in the game’s Episode Mode.
The visual style continues to look incredible, and the character designs strike a fantastic balance between classic Marvel appearances and the game’s anime-inspired presentation.
As a fighting game enthusiast, needless to say, I am hyped.

Marathon Opens Its Doors
Bungie also had something to share for Marathon fans.
Season 2 launches today, bringing a fresh start for players looking to jump back into the extraction shooter. Better still, PlayStation announced an Open Play Week running from June 2 through June 9, allowing newcomers to experience the game without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Having recently spent time with Marathon myself, I can see this being a great opportunity for curious players to finally see what all the discussion has been about.

Until Dawn 2 Brings Horror Back
One of the night’s more surprising announcements was Until Dawn 2.
Developed by Firesprite Games, this standalone sequel introduces an entirely new cast and setting while retaining the choice-driven horror formula that made the original so memorable.
This time players take control of a team of ghost hunters travelling to an abandoned tropical island in search of their big break. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan.
The concept sounds promising, and if Firesprite can capture the same tension and consequence-driven storytelling that made the first game special, horror fans could be in for a treat.

PlayStation Plus Subscribers Have Plenty to Look Forward To
PlayStation also took time to highlight several upcoming additions to PlayStation Plus.
Runescape: Dragonwilds will arrive as a Day One Game Catalog release, bringing its fantasy survival adventure to subscribers at launch.
Premium members can also look forward to a trio of classic titles over the next few months:
• Gitaroo Man arriving later this month
• Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July
• Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August
It’s a nice mix of modern and classic experiences that should keep subscribers busy between all the major releases arriving later this year.
Final Thoughts
If this State of Play proved anything, it’s that PlayStation’s next eighteen months are looking incredibly strong.
Marvel’s Wolverine cemented itself as my most anticipated game of the year, God of War Laufey instantly became one of my most anticipated games full stop, and MARVEL Tōkon continues to surprise me every time it appears.
Throw in Marathon, Until Dawn 2, Silent Hill: Downfall, Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and everything else shown during the presentation, and it’s safe to say gamers are going to be eating very well.
Now excuse me while I continue counting the days until Wolverine launches.
