Is State of Decay 3 Releasing in 2026? It Is According to One Journalist

One of the best zombie post-apocalyptic franchises has been quiet on their next iteration for quite some time, but one journalist gives us an update. 

State of Decay 3 was revealed back in 2020 and later with a new trailer at the Xbox Showcase last year, many thought we might be playing the game this year. It’s fair to say that State of Decay 3 has seen many challenges throughout its development which only contribute to the added delays of the game. The move to Unreal Engine surely slowed down production of the game, leading to yet another delay.

Now, according to Jez Corden of Windows Central, he mentions on the Xbox Two podcast that State of Decay has once again been delayed and predicts the game to now launch in 2026. 

With the amount of improvements Undead Labs are focusing on with State of Decay 3 from, weapon handling, improved base building, the move to Unreal Engine and much more, State of Decay 3 could become one of the best zombie games and a staple for Xbox. Will it go to PS5? I would almost count on it at this point. Undead Labs has grown in size to be the largest the studio has ever become. They are rumored to be collaborating with other studios to make SOD 3 the biggest in the series. All of this takes a lot of time, effort and money! Something being on Xbox and Game Pass alone, I feel can’t suffice on their own. 

Let us know what your hype level is for State of Decay 3. It’s certainly one of my most anticipated titles, and I don’t even like zombie games. BUT, State of Decay has always had a special spot with me. Playing with my brother and friends as we outrun a horde of zombies. Building our base, or losing my favorite survivor to an infected house that I thought was empty. There just isn’t a game out there that hits the way State of Decay does. Hopefully, State of Decay 3 hits just as hard as the past games of the series.
