A Brutal, Atmospheric Descent
Total Chaos, developed by the Trigger Happy Interactive and published by Apogee Entertainment, is a gritty survival-horror FPS that blends classic design philosophy with modern tension. What started as a wildly ambitious project has become a fully realized standalone experience. Apogee and Trigger Happy are a FPS match made in heaven.

Atmosphere & Fear Factor
The biggest strength of Total Chaos is its oppressive atmosphere. The game drops you onto the desolate island of Fort Oasis and immediately lets the environment do the talking. Tight corridors, dim lighting, and eerie ambient sounds create a constant sense of dread without relying on cheap shocks.
It can be easy to get lost, sometimes intentionally so. The maze-like world design leans heavily into exploration, but the lack of hand-holding might frustrate players who prefer more guidance. Still, once you adapt, the tension of wandering through decaying structures with nothing but footsteps and distant echoes is one of the game’s best elements. If you have a trusty good quality headset, I highly recommend using it as the sound quality definitely amplifies the horror.

Combat & Resource Management
Combat in Total Chaos is straightforward but surprisingly satisfying. Weapons feel weighty and dangerous, especially when every bullet or melee swing counts. This isn’t a run-and-gun shooter; it’s a survival experience where every encounter matters.
You’ll constantly need to watch your resources, ammo, stamina, healing items, and even your weapon durability. This tight resource economy makes fights feel more meaningful and helps reinforce the game’s horror identity. When you finally take down something lurking in the dark, it feels earned.
Performance, Style & Identity
Though built on the bones of classic FPS tech, Total Chaos carves out a visual identity that feels unique. The gritty textures, heavy fog, and minimal UI work together to create something that feels both retro and modern. Trigger happy’s work shines through, they continue to show that they understand what makes FPS games special, and here they prove they know horror just as well.

Verdict: 8.5/10
Despite some navigation frustration, Total Chaos delivers a tense, atmospheric, and memorable survival-horror FPS experience. With strong design, unforgiving combat, and truly unsettling environments, it stands as another win for Apogee and a must-play for fans of atmospheric shooters.
