Overview
Ra Ra Boom, a beat ’em up with a bold anime-inspired aesthetic, aims to deliver high-octane action but ultimately falls flat for me, earning a 4/10. While it has some redeeming qualities, the game’s deeply irritating characters made it a struggle to enjoy.
Visuals and Sound
The game has strong and bright visuals, graphics that burst with colour. The techno-infused soundtrack complements the fast-paced action, keeping the energy high during combat. These elements are clear highlights, appealing to fans of stylish, animated beat ’em ups.
Gameplay
Combat in Ra Ra Boom is a strong point, with responsive controls and a variety of attacks that chain into satisfying combos. Special moves add flair, and the mechanics are intuitive, making it easy to jump in and start smashing enemies. For genre enthusiasts, the gameplay offers moments of genuine fun, though it’s not groundbreaking.

Characters and Story
Unfortunately, the characters are where Ra Ra Boom crumbles. The cheerleader-inspired squad is meant to be quirky but comes across as unbearably obnoxious. Their relentless, forced humor and over-the-top dialogue are grating, amplified by voice acting that feels exaggerated. Cutscenes became a slog, and the story failed to engage me due to the unlikable cast.
Final Thoughts
While Ra Ra Boom has solid mechanics and vibrant presentation, the insufferable characters overshadow its strengths. It’s not for me, but fans of beat ’em ups who can tolerate cringeworthy writing might find some enjoyment. For me, it’s a pass.
