Daniel Craig’s Head on Agent 47’s Body – The Original Demo Model for 007’s New Game

James Bond has recently come to light with his next outing, announcing the end of 007’s video game retirement, as 007 First Light is gaining speed in development. The next instalment comes to us from IO Interactive, the very same studio known for its work on the acclaimed Hitman series. Mind you, securing the rights to such a huge franchise was no small feat as the studio had to use intriguing creative methods which involved merging Agent 47 and Daniel Craig, at that point a freaky good spy.

In a recent interview with IGN, IO Interactive CEO and First Light game director Hakan Abrak said the process involved showcasing an alternative method in-game which demonstrated the merged elements of Hitman with a spiced mix of James Bond.

Abrak said in the interview that “we actually did put Daniel Craig in there.” He continued by saying “we just modelled his head and put it in instead of Agent 47, just for demo purposes, giving an impression of what these living, breathing spaces mean in an IO game.” The demo took place within a Hitman game, the level which is well known: Sapienza. Specifically, the part involving a hidden virus laboratory beneath the coastal town, and, in my opinion, what a way to sell your game.

We last saw Daniel Craig in the critically acclaimed role in 2021’s movie No Time to Die and there has been no movie casting yet. However, we got a new casting in the shape of a digital one. The Irish actor Patrick Gibson has put on his best Queen’s English accent and stepped into the suave role of James Bond. Playing James Bond at a younger age and a more formal version, at the young age of 26! Gibson is just 30 years old. He is the youngest actor to portray Bond as of yet.

Narrative director for IO Interactive, Martin Emborg, also spoke about First Light and the actor portraying Bond. As he said, “The way that works is less about looking for who becomes our Bond. Who can shoulder this young version of the character? “And I think working with big names is a different exercise.” Emborg continued on by saying, “It’s not about finding the character as much as saying, ‘oh, wouldn’t it be cool if so-and-so were Bond?’, I don’t think that was super attractive at any point, actually.” Emborg certainly wanted someone fresh in the shoes of Bond rather than a globally known, and critically acclaimed actor coming into the shoes, as it has been rumoured Aaron-Taylor Johnson or James Norton could be the movie Bond

If we look back at Daniel Craig’s likeness being used as a cinematic in-game Bond, we look to the 2010 Goldeneye remake aimed for the Nintendo Wii. Craig’s face was used to update the OG 1997 Nintendo 64 Classic’s Pierce Brosnan to the more modern era of Bond. 007 First Light is headed for a release date of March 27th, 2026. Preorders are now available, including a collectors’ edition which has been priced marked at $300. Again, wait for more details before you pre-order! As always with a pre-order, you can never be certain in this era of gaming.
