After the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake back in 2023, many fans of the franchise assumed that Capcom would be remaking the co-op horror classic Resident Evil 5 next, as it would make the most sense following the numbered series’ timeline. However, if you’re one of those fans that are eager for the African action-shooter to make a glorious RE Engine return, you’re likely going to have to wait a bit longer. Regardless, I made some fun AI pictures to see what things might look like.

A recent rumor from AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem recently stated, “The info is there is no Resident Evil 5 Remake in development right now.” However, they indicated that, “if fan demand continues to be high & things align, it’s definitely possible it could happen in the future. But at this moment in time, a remade version of RE5 is not being worked on.” Now, take all of this with a grain of salt as ol’ Dusk isn’t always the number one reliable source of RE intel, but they get enough right that it’s still fun to talk about. On a positive note, another game in the franchise is supposedly currently being remade in place of RE5 and I couldn’t be more excited!

The title in question is my all-time favorite game in the storied and altogether glorious RE franchise, Resident Evil: Code Veronica! The game features a legendary story of the Redfield siblings going to the ends of the Earth and packing enough heat to take out a few tyrants along the way, to save one another in what has become one of the greatest narratives the franchise has ever produced. Couple the stellar storytelling with the Gothic operatic musical backing, the amazing lineup of unique armaments, and the return of one of the series’ most notorious bad guys, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a symphony of survival horror goodness! Oh, and we can’t forget STEVE!

Dusk Golem stated, “Code Veronica Remake is going super well from what I’ve heard, like RE:4 levels of good. Going so well that it’s actually ahead of their internal schedule and they’re very confident in what they’re making.” I’ve been waiting for a Code Veronica Remake since RE2 Remake released, thinking they would drop it shortly after RE3 as the timeline would line up, but alas, they went for their money maker first, and who can blame them? It was a certified banger that provided them the financial means and feedback to create a quality product with each remake, sequel, and spinoff going forward. While none of this has been officially announced, it’s still exciting to have something to keep an eye on.

Much like they aided in building hype around the remake of RE2, the Residence of Evil squad has been pushing for this release and building a community around it for years now. The hype is there, the dedication and excitement are there, so now’s the time. The community has spoken and WE WANT THIS GAME! Until then, Resident Evil Requiem drops on February 27th, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If Requiem hits as hard as I imagine it will, Capcom will likely utilize assets from their many remakes and sequels to remake the Outbreak games as well… they’d be foolish not to with the renewed hype around Raccoon City and the Ashcrofts. Maybe I’m just greedy for more.
