Today, Wednesday August 20th, the wonderful talents at Team17 and Crowbar Collective have premiered some exciting gameplay from the upcoming four-player, cooperative shooter, Rogue Point! The team behind the insanely popular Half-Life title Black Mesa are coming out swinging with a brand-new FPS IP that promises to offer players of all skill levels a challenging set of missions through a dynamic Rogue-lite structure that provides for hundreds of variations in gameplay.
Rogue Point pits four-person squads against computer-controlled enemies of different classes, each offering their own unique and engaging sets of challenges to overcome with your team. The central focus of the game is to provide a “quick and clean” FPS experience with an emphasis on cooperation and tactics. Players will have to develop and utilize effective strategies, develop appropriate loadouts for the task at hand, or risk facing defeat at the hands of their enemies.
The roguelike element of the game is apparent as with each new run, your weapons and equipment are replaced as you earn in-game currency for landing kills and completing objectives, which can be spent on fresh gear at the start of each new map. This gives players the chance to approach each mission with different loadouts and strategies in mind to best overcome whatever obstacles lie ahead.
It appears to be along the lines of a more action-focused Rogue-lite Ready or Not, with dozens of unique and exciting weapons and gadgets to get the job done. To be honest, I have yet to play anything Team17 backed that wasn’t a borderline masterpiece, so I’m really excited for this one!
