In May of this year, fans of the recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows were treated to the first of many planned DLC story drops known as “The Works of Luis Frois”, which added a new side quest involving the character for which it was named. The second story content update was just announced with a June 25th release date, and fans of nerd/geek culture are sure to be eager for what Ubisoft has planned.
Coming to the game is actor Robbie Daymond, known for video games, television and films such as Doom: The Dark Ages, Devil May Cry, Persona 5, Dune: Awakening, and many more including his appearances on the wildly popular Dungeons and Dragons web-show Critical Role. Back in January, Critical Role did an Assassin’s Creed Shadows focused oneshot campaign session of D&D. Daymond’s created character from the oneshot named Rufino will be featured as a new ally for Yasuke and Naoe’s combat encounters in the upcoming DLC.
The official Assassin’s Creed X account and Robbie Daymond himself both revealed the news earlier today with a brief video and shared excitement.
This is not only a first for Critical Role but for the Assassin’s Creed series as well, as the games have never featured a pre-made character crossover like this before. Frankly, I think it’s a clever way to turn fans of Critical Role into fans of AC Shadows and vice versa, but I suppose that is always the intent of cross-promotion.
Daymond described Rufino as “always having a shadow to step out of,” so it’s pretty clear that he’s going to be a heavily stealth focused character more akin to Naoe than Yasuke. Oh, and I guess it goes without saying but Daymond will be voicing Rufino, so fans will be able to listen to him chat as they sneak through enemy territory and explore the vast beauty of Feudal Japan.
The character will thrive and survive when unseen and unheard by the enemy but also carries a pistol which is not available to either of the game’s main protagonists, so it will be interesting to see how that affects his stealthiness and overall combat proficiency. With Naoe receiving a Bo Staff in an upcoming update, perhaps the pistol could be a slight tease of what Yasuke could be getting going forward.

What do you think about the new addition to the game? Are you a fan of Robbie Daymond? Do you hope that the pistol will be made available to players in a future release? Let us know how you feel over on the Discord!
