Ubisoft is currently creating another Battle Royale title that is heavily inspired by Apex Legends. That’s according to Insider Gaming.
The project is codenamed “Scout” and will feature characters in the vain of Pathfinder, Lifeline, Wraith and other characters inspired by Apex Legends. One source mentioned that they thought the goal was to capitalize on the lowering of Apex Legends player count in hopes of filling the void in a hero Battle Royale title.
Ubisoft continues to stumble at finding their footing in the Battle Royale genre. It’s certainly hard to take on the champs when it’s the likes of Warzone, PUBG and the declining Apex Legends. When will Ubisoft stop following the trends and begin creating their own like they once did?
They’ve been down this path many times in the past. Hyper Scape, remember that one? A virtual city called Neo Arcadia where verticality was the stand-out feature, soaring above the battle as the inevitable circle closes in around you. Hyper Scape launched in 2020 and didn’t last long at all. Ghost Recon Wildlands had their own 8-player Battle Royale called Mercenaries, which was excellent, but not supported. Then, after the fall of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the team tried to create Ghost Recon Frontline. When revealed to the fans, they erupted in disappointment to have the team take Frontline back to the drawing board.
So I ask. WHEN will Ubisoft begin to set the trends, instead of following them? The Battle Royale genre is slowly declining; Fans are moving on to other games and other genres. Yet, here’s Ubisoft chasing a dying trend once again.
