Have you been waiting not-so patiently for some more Resident Evil remakes like I have? If so, then we may be in luck! According to prominent RE leaker AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, remakes of both Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code: Veronica are lined up for release in 2027 and 2028, though which will launch first is still up in the air as of now.
Frankly I was hoping that a Code: Veronica remake would have already been officially announced as the original is my favorite game in the franchise for a bevy of reasons including the hauntingly operatic soundtrack, the firearm selection, the over-the-top melodramatic narrative, and the Redfield siblings working together to defeat a rival group of evil siblings and a returning fan-favorite foe!
The HD remasters and ports of these titles suffer some quality of life issues that make them a little less enjoyable to play than I would imagine the remakes would be, though I have still returned to them and beaten them well over a dozen times a piece (the same goes for the rest of the series and its spinoffs).

Regardless, the remakes could rectify some of the issues that came with the original RE:0 and RE C:V in terms of the pacing issues, potential soft-locking, and some of the less enjoyable features that caused a lot of frustration for first time players. Not only could some of the gameplay problems be ironed out with these remakes, but the graphics, frame rate, audio quality, voice acting and everything else surrounding the art direction could be revamped to set a more modern tone for the atmospheric zombie thrillers. This would help the classics shine.
The classics are classics for a reason and I still love them desperately, but in the last 20 years the gaming industry has made tremendous technological advancements that these games could benefit from greatly, and the feedback from the fan base would hopefully be taken into account as well. I would love some of the inclusions from the other modern remakes like the challenge point unlocks, simpler stat tracking for subsequent playthroughs and a new batch of achievements to hunt as I have done with all of the others (I’m still missing the S rank professional run achievement on RE4 remake, but still).

With all of that said, if these leaks are as trustworthy as they usually are from the prolific spoiler of upcoming games, a Resident Evil 5 remake is likely not yet in development. With the way that Capcom has been jumping around the timeline with their remake releases, it would be smart to remake the oldest and most divisive titles first, so hopefully the leak pans out and Capcom gives two of my favorite games in the series the love and attention they deserve.
Regardless of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, I’m still surprised that another studio doesn’t have a remake ready to launch in the interim. I’m sure that the Outbreak games will be next up if fans connect with the story and characters of RE 9, as the assets will be plentiful from the previous remakes and the interest in the Ashcrofts will be at an all-time high since the release of the original Outbreak.

As a lifelong fan of the series and its characters, settings, stories, etc., I am eager to play ANYTHING in the Resident Evil universe. I’m even hyped for the upcoming mobile game Resident Evil Survival Unit and I haven’t played a mobile game in years. Here’s hoping for more spooky goodness soon from the masters of horror at Capcom!
