After 10 long years since its release and with 60 million copies sold, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting one final patch for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 that will allow console users to play the game with mods!
CD Projekt Red just confirmed that the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Wild Hunt will get another patch later this year that will bring with it the ability to utilize cross-platform mod support across all 3 different versions of the game. This will simplify the process of developing, sharing, and downloading mods, allowing for a synergistic experience for the mod authors and their end users.

CD Projekt Red stated that a mod.io account connected to your CD Projekt Red account will be required to gain access to the cross-platform mod support, but indicated that modders won’t be limited to only using mod.io to create mods, and that mods shared via Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods will also continue working with the game, only now they can be cross-platform.
The biggest problem is that console players are only going to be able to access mods through mod.io, and not every mod released for the PC version of the game is going to be available for console either unless they follow the CDPR user agreement as well as the fan content guidelines. It’s much like with the Skyrim and Fallout 4 mods coming to console, but being very limited by what was permitted.
It’s annoying to say the least, but it’s better than nothing for fans of the series. CDPR is granting access to the REDkit modding tools for cross-platform mod creation, but even people who don’t use the kit can still get their mods approved if they follow the above-mentioned agreement and guidelines. I’m just excited for console players to finally get a taste of some of the hilarity of The Witcher modding community later on this year!
