In a recent NBCUniversal press release, the next Super Mario Bros movie was named, and it was very very quickly removed as they realized what they did. During the press release for NBCUniversals Upfront Showcase, it was revealed that the name of the movie was in a section on Peacock Streaming referred to as Super Mario World!

During the showcase, it was said, “An exciting range of movies from Universal Pictures, Focus features, Dreamworks animation and Illumination, were presented which include Megan 2.0, Nobody 2, Bad Guys 2, How to Train Your Dragon, Downton Abbey, Black Phone 2, HIM, The Phonecian Scheme, Super Mario World, Shrek and Minions”. Followed by the excitement surrounding the movies’ exclusivity, they headed onto Peacock after they hit the theatres and PVOD windows, which stated they would be a powerhouse for success.
Since the press release, the statement which was made which included the name Super Mario World has been edited and the movie title has been removed, which heavily suggests that the movie has been leaked and revealed far too early, as a great man once said “Whoops”. However, the title of the movie would make sense following the last movie’s ending (no spoilers here, watch the movie for that!). The Super Mario Bros movie grossed a total of $1.36 billion worldwide, coming second to the Barbie release at $1.44 billion. Making the movie the third largest grossing PG movie in US history and the 17th overall.
Last year, Nintendo and Illumination did indeed confirm that a second movie would be dropped based on the world of Super Mario Bros. Now the title makes sense, no? And this should aim to release on April 3 2026!
