Sacred 2 Remastered Review – A Witty, Classic ARPG Reborn

A Fresh First Look at a Cult Classic

This was my first time diving into Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, and with the release of the Sacred 2 Remastered version, I finally had a chance to experience what many fans have called one of the most underrated ARPGs of its era. Developed by Jumpgate AB and SparklingBit, and published by THQ Nordic, this remaster aims to breathe new life into a massive, lore-rich world filled with sharp writing, dark humor, and deep RPG systems.

From the moment I stepped into Ancaria, I could tell that Sacred 2 doesn’t take itself too seriously. The writing is packed with tongue-in-cheek references, clever quest descriptions, and genuinely funny moments that still land surprisingly well today. It’s rare to see a fantasy world that doesn’t just embrace its tropes but laughs at them too. The graveyard in particular had me howling, each description on every tombstone was incredibly hilarious.

The Charm and Wit That Still Shine

The standout feature of Sacred 2 Remastered isn’t the combat or visuals, it’s the personality. Every dialogue line, quest log, and even loading screen oozes with wit. There’s a clear creative soul behind this world, something that modern ARPGs often lose in their pursuit of polish.

While the main story is sprawling and sometimes chaotic, it’s filled with charm. I found myself grinning at bizarre NPCs, strange side quests, and even the narrator’s dry humour. For a first-time player in 2025, it’s easy to see why Sacred 2 still holds a cult following, it’s unapologetically weird and wonderfully written.

Where the Remaster Shows Its Age

That said, no amount of nostalgia can hide that Sacred 2 feels outdated in both graphics and gameplay. The remaster does clean things up, textures are sharper, lighting is improved—but animations remain stiff and UI elements feel clunky compared to modern ARPG standards. Combat, while ambitious in scale, lacks the weight and fluidity of newer genre entries.

The camera system and menu navigation, in particular, reminded me of early 2000s PC RPGs. It’s part of the charm for some, but it can be frustrating for first-time players expecting smoother modern design.

Final Verdict

Despite its rough edges, Sacred 2 Remastered is an absolute joy to experience for anyone who appreciates clever writing and old-school RPG design. The humour, scale, and soul of the original remain intact, and even though it’s showing its age, I walked away smiling more often than not.

Verdict: 7.5/10 – A witty, nostalgic adventure worth revisiting.
