In a post on X yesterday, Respawn posted that even though Respawn is built on “bold ideas, creative risks, and passionate storytelling” that has carried them through incredible highs and through difficult lows, Respawn will have to sharpen their focus.
In the process of sharpening their focus, the team will be stepping away from two early-stage incubation projects. One of those projects was said to be set in the Titanfall universe with the game being an Extraction Shooter. As noted by Jason Schreier, who also reported on 300–400 roles being terminated at EA. 100 of those employees were directly affected by Respawn.
Justin Higgs, a spokesman for Redwood City, had this to say in a following statement in regards to the strategic shift: “As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth,”
The future growth is now on Apex Legends, which has been struggling lately to hold players’ attention. The other is, of course, the Jedi series. With Star Wars Jedi Survivor releasing in April 2023, the team will be hard at work on the third entry in the series, and we can only assume at this point that we are still a few years away from seeing anything at all on the particular title.
With Apex Legends struggling as of late, would a new Titanfall experience have helped? Fans have been asking for something Titanfall related for years now and would love to experience anything in that universe. There were rumors of Apex bringing Titans to the Battle Royale, but we have yet to see anything on that prosper yet.
How do you feel about this strategic shift? Let us know in the comments.
