Slocap, the creators of Rematch, have announced that they recently passed 5 million unique players in a single month. The announcement comes from the developers’ LinkedIn profile, where it was said that the team will “keep doing our best to make Rematch better.” It certainly seems like players are choosing the right side when it comes to playing the new Soccer/Football title (dependent on where you are from, of course), which gives a fresh take on the sport genre.
Rematch hit the pitch on June 19th, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S (as well as Game Pass), PlayStation 5 and Steam to varied scores, according to Metacritic. Upon launch, it was announced early on that the game had racked up one million players, and by June 24th, 2025, Slocap announced that the title had surpassed three million players, and it has only continued to steadily grow in popularity.
Even though the game has enjoyed its fair deal of critical and commercial success, it has received some backlash regarding the inability to play cross-platform, which in turn results in a longer wait time for matches to commence. While this obviously hinders engagement as wait times put people off, we do know that this feature is intended to be included in a future post-launch update, but as of this article’s release there has been no official patch date provided.

Rematch has given us Rocket League-esque gameplay, but in the form of Football/Soccer, you can expect high-octane, engaging action in this ball-bouncing sports game. In my opinion, this title deserves a visit, and especially for those Xbox fans who have Game Pass. Give it a go and see how you like it. If you enjoy games such as Rocket League and Fifa (now known as FC), pick this up and have a few matches. It’s been engaging that sportsmanlike competitiveness within me and about 5 million other players!
