Today, Ubisoft held their Siege X presentation to reveal the biggest changes coming to their wildly successful live-service offering. There are a number of things to be excited about!
Rainbow Six Siege X is launching free to play June 10th!

However, Ranked and Siege Cup modes are premium only.
For now, let’s focus on the Core Siege experience.
Year 10 Season 2 will bring about sweeping updates across the core game modes that fans know and love.
New Environments
Environmental hazards have been introduced to add depth to strategies. Also known as “Destructible Ingredients” they can take several forms:
Red pipes that can be shot to release a jet of flame. This jet of flame can be used to deny the use of a door or hallway. After some time the jet will cease and flames will spill out across the surrounding area.
Fire extinguishers can also be shot to produce a temporary thick smoke screen. If an enemy is standing too close to one they will be momentarily blinded.
Metal detectors were once an annoyance! They are now interactable, being disabled or even destroyed by ordinance.
With a new “Advanced Rappel” system, players can now remain hooked around corners. Instead of having to unhook, switch sides and hook again. Players can also sprint along the wall. This major increase in speed will make operators like Fuze more dangerous.
Enhancements
Firstly, the UI will be overhauled to speed up menu navigation and a modern look.
More importantly, modernized map remakes!
Lighting and textures will be updated to reflect more of the dark, dirty corners and the bright, vibrant colors under strong light.
Clubhouse, Chalet, Bank, Cafe, and Border have been refreshed. Each season will receive an additional refreshed map.

These modernized maps will also feature an audio overhaul!
First person shadows are fixed and much more realistic. This will add a huge consideration for moment-to-moment tactics.
More Changes
Ban Phase has been drastically changed.
At the beginning of the first three rounds, each team has the option of banning a single operator. As a veteran of the game, I can see how this will offer a much more responsive answer to dominating operators from round to round.
The “Communication Wheel” is the option for teammates that prefer to abstain from voice chat. This is essentially an emote system that will be quick to access and will hopefully improve teamwork.
You can inspect your weapons in game to admire your recent unlocks and purchased skins. Beware! An animated/reactive skin was unveiled for Ash, which may indicate an attempt to appeal to fans of other major shooters like Call of Duty.
Veteran Rewards
Existing players will keep everything currently unlocked.
Siege veterans will be rewarded for each year that the player has been present for and a Veteran Badge of honor will indicate what year you started playing.
The Future of Rainbow Six Siege X
The Siege X reveal presentation was dripping with gratitude and enthusiasm.
On June 10, 2025 we will see a proper roadmap for the future of Siege X.
This is their commitment to the NEXT 10 years of Siege!
