At Gamescom 2025, we got our first look at what looks to be an homage to the F.E.A.R. franchise while becoming its own beast in the form of Project Spectrum, a title developed by Team Jade, known for their FPS titles such as Delta Force: Hawk Ops and Assault Fire a popular Chinese shooter. The title gave us a look at what appears to be a fragmented world, where the agents we get to play with are on the brink of it all as they have tense encounters with the monsters produced by the ember, other agents, and more, within its brutal world.
Currently being developed for PC using Unreal Engine 5, Project Spectrum looks extremely promising and unique, while retaining many staples of the genre that it appears to have taken inspiration from. From what we saw in the trailer above, we see a female agent struggling with her own psyche as she relives the tragedy of what she had to face on her mission into the ember. The ember is an unforgiving place where there are blurred lines between reality and fiction, where you see creatures lurking and shadows teasing.
One big thing I will pick up on is that we see a little on-the-go customization with the Molotov cocktail and the burning weapon/axe. This being a unique element to the game will make the title stand out and will engage the fans of the upcoming tactical shooter in the world, more than simply shooting foes would. Not only that, notice how the game appears to have a strain on the agent’s mental fatigue; the effects of diminishing sanity on the human psyche.
With the game having innovative and unique features such as the aforementioned sanity drain, it will surely collect fans and separate itself from other FPS titles. The game also features a PvPvE setting in a world where you enter the “ember zones” where the human mind bends and drains as the ember creeps into the agent’s mind. Project Spectrum looks to not only have the agents fight against other agents, but as we saw towards the end of the trailer, the roles of antagonistic threats are being assumed by the executioners, who look to be Hellish nightmare-fueled monstrosities hunting the player and other agents.

The director of the title over at Team Jade, Basil Wang, has spoken about the reveal of the game, as he said, “We are incredibly excited to show Project Spectrum to players worldwide, as we have been working in secret for two years.” Two years is a long time to be developing a game in secret with no leaks and no word; however, it looks to me that the team are doing an awesome job of putting together the project that we now know as Project Spectrum.
Wang followed up by speaking on how the game has individuality and gives itself a pat on the back for doing something different yet captivating as Wang stated, “with this game, we wanted to create something truly unique: a meticulously crafted and uniquely styled shooter at its core, while presenting a dangerous yet captivating world – one where players embark on an unpredictable survival adventure. As they explore, they’ll encounter unexpected threats and may even become a danger themselves… Our journey has just begun, and we can’t wait to share more in the future.”

Wang and the dedicated devs over at Team Jade seem to be preparing us for an unpredictable title which aims to grab us by the lapels and swing us around in a mysterious world filled to the brim with danger, whether that be coming from opposing agents or the vicious monstrosities that reside in the ember.
Will you be picking up Project Spectrum when it gets its release date? I think for as far as I can see, I will be one of the fans waiting at their gates as this new and unique title is giving us something fresh yet familiar in how it gracefully tips its hat to the F.E.A.R franchise and I’d go as far to say Hunt: Showdown as it also includes that element of PvPvE in a world full of creepy creatures and opposing players.
