Project FMC – FromSoftware’s Mysterious Upcoming Game

The Japanese studio FromSoftware has been working behind the scenes on an as-yet unannounced project. As we know, they are working on updates and DLC for Elden Ring: Nightreign, along with developing an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2 called The Duskbloods. However, in an intriguing development, information received by MP1st, a gaming media site, FromSoftware are in the advanced stages of developing a project known only as “FMC”, which will probably be an abbreviation of a longer codename.

In the past, FromSoftware has been very direct with their codenames, apart from the more marketing-friendly ones such as “Project Beast”, which was the case for BloodBourne. A good example of their more direct codenames comes in terms of Elden Ring, being named “Great Rune” or in game files “GR” for short. This points to in-game items dropped by shardbearer bosses, and in turn directly relates the titles to the codenames through smaller meanings.

So far, it is also worth noting that titles having codename abbreviations starting with the letter “F”, have been associated with Dark Souls and Armored Core. If we look at the Dark Souls series actually, the codename abbreviations go as follows – Dark Souls II – FRPG2, Dark Souls III – FDP and finally Dark Souls Remastered – FHD, lastly followed by Armored Core VI being named FNR.

The speculation is growing that “FMC” is a new title potentially linked with Armored Core, and fans are speculating it as such, because “FMC” is being rumored to be released for multiple platforms, however with the franchise having had a recent revival with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, it seems unlikely that another full title from the series would release so soon.

Moving along with relativity to the “F”, another Dark Souls entry seems mostly off the table due to Hidetaka Miyazaki not being interested in creating another title in the series, so a good guess could actually be that the project could be a remake or remaster to the franchise. It is worth noting that Nick Baker, co-host of the XboxEra Podcast, reported last year that, according to his sources at least, Dark Souls III Remastered is in development, so “FMC” could be a hint to this.

Regardless of all the information being gathered by fans, and by the people interested in the project, it could just be that “FMC” could easily be a brand-new IP completely unrelated to the existing series by FromSoftware. However, we likely won’t be waiting too long for an announcement as Gamescom and The Game Awards are on the horizon, so I’m sure that the mysterious “FMC” project will be uncovered soon!

Speaking of FromSoftware, be sure to check out Elden Ring: Nightreign by the way. It is such a great game and really drags you into that unforgiving universe that the famous studio managed to craft beautifully.

Let us know what you guys think in the comments below! Do you think that “FMC” is a new project? Or a return to a previous series?
