Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown | Is a Sequel All but Imminent?

According to previous sales numbers, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was underperforming and failing to meet the expectations Ubisoft had for the game’s success. However, in the previous 15 months since release, the game has reached a player count of over 2 million and climbing. This seems to be enough for Ubisoft and the Prince of Persia team to view the game as a viable option for more content in the series. Whether that comes in the form of DLC or a proper sequel is still up in the air, but according to the Prince of Persia X account, these 2 million plus players have “revived the legend” stating “The Prince is back, and believe us – he’s just warming up.”

Due to the fact that the game’s developers are reportedly working on other projects at this time, it will be interesting to see if they take the helm on the next project, or if another studio will be brought in to carry on the legacy.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown returns to its roots that reach back to the original games in the series, showcasing both a stylized art direction and a fast paced side-scrolling combat system that hearkens back to a simpler time in gaming, but takes advantage of modern advancements in both graphical capabilities and control schemes.

With a seemingly renewed interest in Metroidvania styles of gameplay, as well as a growing almost universal fondness for nostalgia in gaming in recent times, I believe it a fair assumption that the team is already working hard on producing another game in the series to capitalize on its new-found popularity. Only time will tell, and we’ll be sure to follow up when we know more.

Until then, fans of the series still have the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to look forward to, with an expected release date in 2026. After the delays and reworking of the highly anticipated 2022 remaster of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, many fans are hopeful that Ubisoft follows through on the new remade version and gives this franchise the respect and treatment it deserves. As with anything of this nature, fans wait with bated breath, but for how long until the excitement is lost and hype dies down?

It’s been about 22 years since the release of The Sands of Time, and with constant studio, gameplay, and story changes throughout the franchise since, fans can only hope that as we wait for the remake, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown gets a quality sequel soon that draws in new gamers and returning fans alike so that the series can continue to generate revenue and be able to grow in the years to follow. For now, fans can celebrate the success of the franchise as it stands, and remain hopeful for what comes next.

Are you excited for a sequel, perhaps an altogether new type of game for the franchise, or are you just excited about the remake like so many of us are? Let us know your feelings in the comments below.
