Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Priced | Why Would You Buy This?

During the hour-long Nintendo Switch 2 reveal event, Nintendo gave us a look into the future of what we can expect to play and a deeper dive into the Switch 2 unit itself. Among some of the good-looking titles was also a tech demo, the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will take us on a mini-game tour of Nintendo’s new platform, arriving on June 5th for $700 CAD with the Mario Kart World bundle. The premise behind the Welcome Tour is to allow those who own a Switch 2 the ability to explore the basic features of the Nintendo Switch 2, like the magnetic connectors or more advanced tech details that we might not have noticed otherwise. Take quizzes or enjoy minigames and other tech demo features.

Nintendo has decided that the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will not be a packaged tech demo that would come with the purchase of a Switch 2. Instead, the tech demo will have a price tag of ¥990 yen, which converts to around $6.12 / £4.65 as spotted by VGC on the official Japanese Nintendo website.

Let the weird Nintendo decisions continue once again. The Welcome Tour is a tech demo, something that will showcase the tech of the Switch 2, something that you want others to experience who are excited for the Switch 2. Why wouldn’t this be packaged in with the purchase of a Switch 2? This is often the case when others launch a console, similar to the PS5. Which had its own tech demo that was free for PS5 owners to explore. Once you have your excited little hands on your new Switch 2, why would you consider purchasing the Welcome Tour? You will be playing for hours and learning the console as you play. The Welcome Tour should have been packed in with the console. Was it worth the development time for the Tour? How well will this tech demo sell?

Such a weird decision to make a tech demo that isn’t packed in with the launch of a console. If you want to learn the console, you will most likely explore on your own, learning as you go. Instead, Nintendo wants you to purchase this tech demo.

Let us know what you think of this tech demo purchase. You can check out more of our Switch 2 event coverage here.
