New Mario Kart World Patch Is Driving Fans Off Course

Recently Mario Kart World received a newly updated patch and, well…. Many players aren’t taking too kindly to this as the patch has slightly changed things in regard to online play. Fans of the title have been very vocal on the matter across social media platforms, mostly questioning the necessity of the changes. One player expressed their discontent stating “In typical Nintendo fashion, they take something good for the fans and toss it aside.”

So, what’s changed and why are people unhappy? The main changes seem to mainly affect online play, however, there have also been changes to some tracks such as Boo Cinema and Dino Dino Jungle, which aimed to improve the overall player experience as they engage in intense head-to-head races.

As mentioned prior, the primary changes in patch 1.1.2 that many players are taking issue with are centered around the online capabilities allowing for players to match with friends and strangers alike, to challenge one another in standard three lap races. Matchmaking now seems to favor the “Intermission races”, where players race from track to track in the open world, and then run a lap on the new track upon arrival. Though this may be a popular and otherwise enjoyable game-type, it does leave fans of the traditional racing format scratching their heads as to why this change was included in the update.

However, players can still select the “Random” option before each race, which before the patch would always choose a track for a standard three lap race. Now whilst the random option still sometimes offers a standard three lap race, intermission races have become far more prevalent since the patch rolled out. Fans of the game are not happy about this, with one fan named KillStealWolf from a thread on ResetEra, saying “Thanks, I hate it” and quite a few fans echoing the sentiment, with some going as far as to say that they now strongly dislike online play altogether.

Here are some of the Patch update notes:

General

  • Adjusted courses selected in “Random” when selecting the next course in a wireless “VS Race.”

Fixed Issues

  • Made readjustments to fix an issue where rate fluctuations were sometimes displayed incorrectly in “Online Play” and “Knockout Tour.”
  • Fixed an issue where you sometimes can’t recover quickly after falling off the course in “Dino Dino Jungle”.
  • Fixed an issue where you continually hit the wall near the finish line of “Boo Cinema” when transformed into Bullet Bill.

Do you think this massively affects online play? Do you believe the patch has benefitted the majority of fans? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
