Mortal Kombat 1’s Next Fighter Is Almost Here, The T-1000

The liquid metal-based cybernetic assassin from the Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) film, T-1000 will launch on March 18th for those with the Early Access of Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns expansion. Those who don’t have the early access will be able to purchase the T-1000 assassin separately on March 25th.

Stabby stabby goes the T-1000. We get to see some of the metallic morphing move sets as we watch the T-1000 transform his hands into spikes of destruction and setup for grabble maneuvers. Some moves are similar to Baraka and even a through-back to Kabal. His meltaway moves will be fast and tricky to handle, but he looks like a ton of fun to play. We also get a glimpse of Madam Bo, the new Kameo fighter to join the roster.

As season 1 of Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns comes to an end, it appears this is it for MK1. From the rumblings we’ve heard, season 2 of Mortal Kombat 1 was cancelled by Warner Bros. The new approach of MK1 to feel more like a live service game hasn’t appeared to pay off as much as WB had hoped. Is it time to go back to Injustice? In the past, NearthRealm had alternated between the franchises, Mortal Kombat one year, with a follow-up of Injustice the next. When fans expected to see Injustice 3, we were surprised to get MK1 instead. WB was betting on the stronger fandom of the Mortal Kombat series to bring in more bang for their buck. The lack of seasonal updates within the Kombat store is telling. No longer are we getting new cosmetics; Instead, we’re getting the return of old cosmetics from previous seasons and the chance to earn enough in-game currency to unlock Brutalities. Its been rather underwhelming to say the least.

So what’s next for NethRealm, becomes our biggest question? Do they try to save MK1 with another season? Move on with a new Injustice? Or will WB sell off NethRealm as rumors of WB looking to sell off the games division has been heard around the industry for some time now. The future is certainly unclear right now for Mortal Kombat. We’ll keep you posted right here when we hear more! Let us know if you’re still playing MK1, or have you moved on?
