Marvel/EA Partnership | Three Games Still in Development

About 3 years ago now, Marvel and EA officially announced a multi-game collaboration to create action-adventure titles based around beloved Marvel heroes for PC and console. After the cancellation of the previously upcoming single-player Black Panther game as well as the recent shuttering of Cliffhanger Studios and subsequent layoffs and redistribution of staff, many have feared for the future of the Marvel and EA game deal, especially for the development of the much-anticipated new Iron Man game.

Fortunately, it has been confirmed that at least three games are still coming from the partnership, with Iron Man now being the first on the list to launch with Motive Studios taking the helm. A spokesperson for Marvel recently stated that the relationship between EA and Marvel Games is going to be a “long-term collaboration” focusing on “original storytelling” surrounding popular Marvel characters. EA Entertainment president Laura Miele went on to confirm that the company’s partnership with Marvel games remains strong and that their “multi-title, long-term collaboration continues.”

The only concrete information we have on the first title as of yet is that the Iron Man game will be an “original narrative that taps into the rich history of the character, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark”, and that the development team is led by Oliver Proulx who worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy game a few years back. There are also going to be a handful of other industry vets providing support on the project as well, so I would hope that it’s in good hands.

What did you think about Black Panther getting canceled? Are you excited for a new Iron Man game? Do you trust EA with these properties? Who do you want to see get their own game next? Let us know what you think on the Discord.
