Bandai Namco has recently announced a Little Nightmares showcase for June 24th. The showcase for the popular horror video game series is scheduled to begin at 3pm EDT this coming Tuesday and will feature all the latest news and updates about the franchise.
It is likely that the studio will finally announce an official release date for the previously announced Little Nightmares III among other surprises related to the franchise and possible spin-offs. The upcoming sequel was slated to drop on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch (now likely the Switch 2) sometime this year, so it’s a safe bet to assume that fans will be treated to some new gameplay footage and that anticipated release date during the showcase.
Little Nightmares III is the upcoming standalone sequel that takes place in the beautifully grotesque and isolating 2.5D universe that Tarsier Studios carefully crafted in the previous titles in the series, but this time Supermassive Games are taking the wheel on development. The game follows two new characters that embark on a desperate journey through a nightmarish and desolate realm called “the Nowhere” that can only be explored while asleep. The Nowhere, much like the varied settings of the previous titles, will be full of suspenseful and shocking encounters with hostile foes that far overpower the protagonists, leading to clever environmental puzzle solving and a reliance on patience and stealth to overcome the odds. This time the game will feature an online co-op mode that gives both players a useful role as each character will have their own unique weapons and gameplay mechanics, so if you are a fan of the series and/or looking for a quality co-operative horror experience, then look no further.
Back in October of last year, fans were treated to a spooky trailer featuring a grim atmosphere of uncompromising dread and challenges to overcome utilizing co-op focused gameplay mechanics, but little else has been revealed by the devs in recent months. This lack of official updates has of course led many eager fans to worry about the game’s release and the state of its production, but with the upcoming showcase they can rest assured that only good things are to come in the franchise’s future.
It does strike me as a little strange that a series like Little Nightmares would be getting its own dedicated showcase akin to those held by many larger development studios as of late, instead of just having the game featured at the recent Summer Games Fest, but this could mean that the showcase will include more announcements than just the release date for Little Nightmares 3. On the flip side, it could just mean that the game wasn’t ready to be presented in the manner that the studio was hoping for at the time, but I want to believe that Supermassive is going to pull out all the stops to reveal something truly special as they take creative control over the franchise.
Are you excited for the next game in the series? Do you think Supermassive will handle the game with care? What do you think will be revealed tomorrow at the showcase? Let us know your thoughts over on the Discord.
