OD is the next project in the works over at Kojima Studios, and as we already know, Hideo Kojima is known for creating games that often leave players either overwhelmingly impressed or dramatically disappointed. Death Stranding, regardless of how good a game it may be, has always left players split on their opinion of the title’s experimental story and gameplay. Is it a postman simulator or a groundbreaking masterpiece? I can’t seem to find a consensus.
Kojima has recently stated that OD will surprise players, and fans of the man himself will likely form strong and varying opinions on it. Kojima recently said that the game is “something totally different.” He added, “People will love it or hate it.” OD sounds like it will have hugely differing opinions from fans upon release. However, adding to the statement he had already made, Kojima did say “the real evaluations will come after — 10 or 20 years from now.” This gives the new project a truly mysterious feel and makes it seem like the title will have a lasting impact on fans.
The story of the project so far is that Kojima has partnered with Microsoft and that development has not been affected by the recent layoffs that have recently affected the Microsoft camp. It has been indicated that the title is a “game like no other,” with Kojima adding, “I can’t go into too much detail, and it’s a bit risky and a new challenge for me within the realm of games.” Not only is Kojima partnering with the video game powerhouse that is Microsoft, but he has partnered with filmmaker Jordan Peele for OD which will feature actors such as Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis and Udo Kier.

The legendary video game visionary has been firing on all cylinders, not just with the recent release of Death Stranding 2, but with another title in production from his studio titled “Physint” in what looks to be an espionage-type game. Along with this is an upcoming Death Stranding movie partnered with A24. It very much seems like Hideo Kojima is ready to progress into the realm of greatness (not that he has to as he is already known as a video game legend).
The next projects to come out from Kojima Productions seem like big hitters, especially if OD is supposed to hit peoples’ core years down the line, and not just this but a new espionage-style game in Physint. Maybe we’re looking at a new Metal Gear Solid-type game that can be just as big? Who knows as right now everything is purely speculation, and we can all just get excited about the next projects to come from Kojima.
