It’s fair to say that Skull and Bones was not the QUADRUPLE A game Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, touted it out to be. The only quadruple A part of the game was the expensive cost of creating the Skull and Bones. Costing Ubisoft millions upon millions of dollars and over a decade of development time. Many fans had hoped this would have been a similar experience to Edward Kenway’s journey in Assassin’s Creed Blackflag. Where is that heavily rumored remake by-the-way?
Now, in the Skull and Bones Year 2 Showcase, we might just have become one step closer to living the pirate fantasy we had hoped for.
Quality of life changes were a focus. If it were only there from the beginning, it might have made all the difference. Now with World Tiers, new PvP opportunities, more pirate types (we’ll get to that in a second), new ships, and finally the addition of one of the most iconic sea creatures, “release the Kraken” and ARRRRRguably, (sorry, had to) the most significant addition to the game, land combat! We are no longer just a ship.
Officers will join our crew. These officers will offer unique buffs such as repair perks, increased damage or faster sailing. Add multiple officers to help mix up your play style. Each unique officer is held captive by the new Rogue Warlord and its up to us to set them free and join our crew.
Well About Time!
In the reveal of Year 2, the land combat was shown off and featured gunplay and engaging sword combat. Something many fans expected to see in the game from the beginning. Myself included, this is a pirate game. There will be a free weekend coming up on April 17th to the 21st if you are still unsure about sailing across the Indian Ocean.
So maybe, just maybe, Skull and Bones might be worth giving a shot one more time to sail the high seas as Year 2 certainly looks to fix many of the issues fans had at launch. Let us know if you will be sailing the high seas in Skull and Bones once more. Or, is it too little too late?
