Today the Czech PlayStation social media account accidentally shared an image of a soon-to-release Helldivers 2 major title update called “Heart of Democracy”. The post also included a May 20th release date, but was quickly removed after the mistaken publishing.
This leak has led many players to the assumption that the recent update, centered around the Illuminate, was just a precursor for something far more daunting to come. The images and wording associated with the accidental leak suggest that the most recent update is only setting the stage for a much larger and more involved battle to take place on Super Earth, with the majority of the current update’s objectives only existing to slow or weaken the invasion fleet’s advances.

With other recent PlayStation leaks like the recently published trailer for Stellar Blade on PC that revealed not only the release date but also all of the upgrades coming next month, it’s clear that PlayStation’s social media accounts are perhaps a bit less organized than in previous years. It’s either that, or a clever marketing strategy to drum up excitement.
Some players, however, seem to worry that this may be the end for Helldivers 2, citing the live-service model struggling to maintain a successful foothold to retain player engagement with the constant and ever-evolving tide of alien invasions.
With all of that said, the current update seems to be drawing fans back in with a host of new features and threats. The Illuminate have emerged from the Meridian singularity with larger forces and stronger enemies and are on a warpath to Super Earth, and it’s up to players to once again gear up and band together to stop the alien menace.

There are a handful of new enemies emerging such as the failed Illuminate experiments called Fleshmobs, Stingray jetfighters, and a new foe that sends out a barrage to force players out of cover called the Crescent Overseer that players will have to really buckle down to take on. There have also been sightings of even larger and seemingly more powerful ships with currently unknown abilities.
In an effort to give players the assistance they need to claim victory over this incursion; Super Earth’s R&D department has provided some new powerful weapons and tools for the Helldivers. Players are getting a surprisingly deep weapon customization feature for the majority of their primary weapons, also assigning levels to the primary weapons for successfully completing missions, which will unlock new requisitioned attachments and patterns.

Now players can change their optics, camo and color patterns, magazine sizes, muzzle devices, under-barrel attachments, and numerous other changes that will allow each Helldiver to fully customize their weapon to their specific needs and abilities. Players will also have a new selection of patterns for their characters, allowing for more options for coordination with their squads through the May 15th release of the Masters of Ceremony Warbond.

Along with those updates, the Superstore will also be getting an expansion to help players build out their weapon arsenals for the fight to come. There will no longer be a rotation cycle for weapons and gear, as everything will be made permanently available going forward, for anyone that may have missed the things they needed.

Maybe with the new of the upcoming major update and the upgrades brought on by the recently released update, returning players will heed the call to action and new players may jump in to finally experience the game now that it has a lot of quality-of-life upgrades. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
