Polish that armor, oil those weapons, and get ready to kick some alien butt, because Helldivers 2 is finally coming to Xbox! The insanely popular and critically acclaimed third-person online co-op Super Earth patriotism simulator is finally getting the reinforcements they need to stop the ongoing invasions! Xbox will be sending its best Gears of War, Halo, and Doom veterans who are more than capable and willing to defend the innocent from aliens, mutants, cyborgs, and anything else that stands in the way of global freedom!
This release will mark a tremendous triumph for gaming, as a PlayStation published game will be arriving on Xbox. That just doesn’t happen, but this will hopefully prove to the competitive company that synergy and partnership will win the day. Eager players can already pre-order the game today, and many are already oozing with anticipation for next month’s August 26th release! On the exact same day, Gears of War: Reloaded is slated to release on PlayStation 5, which highlights not only the massively important cross-platform trend but also gives players a taste of what the future of gaming might mean in regard to console-specific exclusives.
For those of you who don’t know, Helldivers 2 is an incredibly community-driven squad shooter that allows for a great deal of customization for weapons, gear, and team cohesion to battle all manner of invading alien and robot forces to defend planets in the system. The game consistently receives updates and events, including loads of new content and over-the-top warfare experiences. The theme and tone feel somewhat like Starship Troopers meets Outriders, but way cooler and much more cleverly crafted!
Game Director Mikael Eriksson indicated that many fans have been requesting an Xbox version of Helldivers 2 since its release, and that the studio is more than excited to welcome all the new players from the console. Eriksson went on to state that with more players joining in on the fun, far more stories can be told, and proudly shared, “The battle for Super Earth is just beginning!”
Players will now be able to join up in a cross-platform effort to continue the Galactic War, which is a community-focused meta game that allows all players to contribute to the overall success through continued planet liberation and the completion of missions. It’s an ongoing mechanic that really keeps players engaged, even when they’re not actively playing the game, because the social media component is like a real-life ready room for soldiers waiting to get into the action when duty calls.
Helldivers 2 originally dropped back in early 2024 on PC and PS5, and very quickly became Sony’s fastest-selling game, with over 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks! The Steam player count continues to remain strong and active, which will likely grow in size once the Xbox players drop in to the battlefield. I think this will be a massive resurgence for the already widely enjoyed game, with the concurrent player count likely reaching an all-time record high with what will be a wonderfully expanded community for the title.
The cross-play will allow for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players to all cooperate on missions and participate in the same Galactic War, side by side as brothers, as it should be. Just like with the upcoming Gears of War: Reloaded dropping on PlayStation, PC, and of course Xbox, players are going to be getting the heartwarming experience of suiting up in futuristic armor and slaying aliens together, providing a promise for a more unified future for gamers, regardless of their preference in gaming device.
