Grand Theft Auto boss Strauss Zelnick has reassured fans of the incredibly long-awaited sequel, that the game won’t be delayed again. With that said, there are plenty of rumors swirling around in the community about future delays thanks to the lack of information or further marketing from Rockstar since the last teaser trailer.
GTA 6 was initially revealed in the back half of 2023 with a brief teaser that seemingly confirmed that the game would likely launch sometime in 2025. Then, after a fair deal of months with zero intel from the developers at Rockstar, it was finally confirmed that the massively anticipated title wouldn’t be releasing until 2026.
Zelnick previously stated that the team wants to make sure the title not only meets the expectations of the series’ fans and the studio alike, but exceeds those expectations as it further takes shape, all while not keeping it from the eager players who are so desperate to get back into the beloved world of crime, chaos, and comedy.
“My level of conviction is very, very high. Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on, but this is of course the primary focus,” Zelnick explained. “We try not to pump expectations, right? I think Rockstar’s whole stock and trade is to have these extraordinary expectations and still beat them. I know that’s their goal. I know it’s going to be an amazing game. The rest we’ll see in the fullness of time.”

Zelnick did however say that he “felt good” about a 2025 release and that the game would be “worth the wait,” and hopefully at least the latter half of his feelings on the development of the game turns out to be true. Only time will really tell.
Unfortunately, Rockstar has again gone silent in terms of any further updates for the army of fans that are growing consistently more impatient. Rockstar’s official website still shows a release date of May 26th, 2026 at time of writing, so hopefully they follow through on their promise to get the game out and make it worth the wait.
