Remedy are looking to repair some lost favor when it comes to the recently released FBC: Firebreak as it released to a poor showing for gamers globally. The studio behind the rocky release have confirmed that they are completely “unsatisfied” with how the game performed commercially even though it had “technical” success.

Remedy recently had their Q2 report for 2025, and whilst it was mostly positive, it’s hard to ignore the fact that while trying to draw in fans of the acclaimed Remedy sci-fi thriller Control, Firebreak kind of came to a complete halt as it saw players quickly make a break away from the game. Whilst it was a good idea, it ultimately failed to deliver with poor performance issues and lack of content. Following this, Remedy have completely shouldered that the game was received poorly, but despite this, they seek a redemption arc for the substandard title.
In a statement released by Remedy speaking on FBC Firebreak, it was said that its “commercial performance has largely been driven by the Xbox and PlayStation subscription service agreements” and that the studio had also stated that “Commercially, we were unsatisfied with the launch-phase consumer sales of FBC: Firebreak“. Alongside this statement, it was seen in the results report that the title was designed to evolve and take shape over time, and despite a somewhat unsightly launch, Remedy has firm beliefs that it has a solid foundation.

It has been noted that the players who have reviewed the game rated their experience as “mostly positive” and Remedy have already indicated that “the core experience of the game is entertaining, and we have already rolled out patches and communicated on how the game will continue to develop”. This tells me that the team who developed the game and will continue to create content for it, are committed to hearing out the fans and delivering an improved experience for them. This alone, for me, will draw people to the game, though, that is if they can deliver on the promise of more content to come.
Bringing me to the point of how Remedy believe the next major update for the title, which will land in late September, will be the next key step for Firebreak and is supported by “targeted marketing activities, which we expect will drive interest in the title”, and as the studio have done their apparent research and confirmed this in the previous statement, it looks as if the September update could be targeted towards Control fans, or even Alan Wake fans at a push to pull in more players.

At least there are currently big positives coming out of Remedy with Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes in full production with the aid of Rockstar and Control 2 being on track to hit its next development milestone. This is what is getting fans excited, which in essence could trigger a rethink of the core subject at hand for Remedy, who seem to be focused on making Firebreak work before fully shifting focus.
Have you managed to play FBC: Firebreak? If so, we hope it was a mostly positive experience because I painfully played the title and found the lack of content and replayability very frustrating as I was looking forward to a game expanding on the Control/Wake universe and lore!
