Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming multiplayer Control spin-off FBC: Firebreak will enter its closed network playtesting this weekend. From the studio that brought us the connected universe of Alan Wake and Control, comes an interesting new first-person PVE shooter that takes place within the world and lore of that very same universe.
Though I’m not typically the biggest proponent of online multiplayer shooters anymore, I’m still very excited for this one as I have grown to love anything within the universe that Sam Lake and the folks at Remedy have put out over the years; Control being no exception.

Taking place in a familiar setting from Control, players will be thrust back into The Old House, which will allow for truly unique and frankly mind-bending map design. The Old House is constantly evolving and is full of some of the most intriguing and often times frightening anomalies in science fiction gaming to date.
This facet of the game’s lore will allow the devs to truly unleash their creative freedom, providing the player and their co-operative partners with an imaginative and varied experience that will likely help FBC: Firebreak stand out from other similar games in the genre. As I’ve mentioned in previous stories, there are few studios quite so creative and inventive as Remedy.

From May 15th until May 19th, the developer stated that the game’s matchmaking and balancing will be tested, and that PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S owners can sign up for a chance to participate in this closed tech test on Remedy’s website.
The game is set to release on June 17th for Steam and the Epic Games store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as day one on Game Pass Ultimate, and if purchased will cost around $40 bucks.
I for one am going to definitely be giving it a shot when it releases next month, and I look forward to seeing how the creative visionaries at Remedy approach their first attempt at this style of game, while trying to maintain that familiar Control setting and tone.
