Don’t bet on there being more Last of Us.

Could this be true?

If these are the words to follow by, Neil Druckmann (President of Naughty Dog) has stated in an interview with Variety, ‘Don’t bet on there being more Last of Us’.

We saw The Last of Us launch to fan and critical success back in 2013 when it first stole the hearts of everyone on PS3. A father with heartbreak learning to survive in a post-apocalyptic United States, as he’s tasked with smuggling a girl who could hold all the answers to a devastating world.

The Last of Us would later get a remastered version and then another. Yes, a remaster of a remaster!

The Last of Us Part II would shock fans alike in 2020, and you guessed it…the game would see a remastered version launch at the beginning of 2024. The Last Of Us Part II Remastered would not only see a graphical update but also a roguelike mode called No Return. Fantastic addition if you enjoy roguelikes. BUT…fans aren’t finished with the series, and we all thought Neil wasn’t either.

In the documentary Grounded II, the documentary gave fans a look into the making of The Last Of Us Part II. Here is where things get interesting; in the documentary, Neil said

“I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept that, to me, is as exciting as 1, as exciting as 2, is its own thing, yet has this through line for all three,” he stated. “So it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to this story.”

Now it appears things may have changed.

“I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us’. This could be it”.

Let’s not forget the now-cancelled The Last Of Us Online, the multiplayer Last of Us experience was cancelled. The team ‘didn’t want to be a live service studio’ and no longer be able to make single-player experiences.

We were teased at the Game Awards of Naughty Dog’s next project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Set thousands of years in the future, it follows bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun who is stranded on a remote planet searching for a crime syndicate.

Plus, season 2 of The Last of Us is coming next month. It’s fair to say Naughty Dog is busy. But they won’t be busy with The Last Of Us Part III anytime soon, if at all.
