We’ve seen Xbox take a shift in their vision as the console war has been rather one-sided with PlayStation dominating the player base. Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox Gaming, has gone on to say the console market has plateaued, and they are taking a new direction and opening up their reach by bringing titles to PlayStation.
Xbox has their next first party title from id Software in Doom: The Dark Ages heading to PlayStation 5 day and date on May 15th as well as Gears of War Reloaded heading to PlayStation 5 to follow. With most of Xbox first party titles making their way over to the competition, developers are beginning to question why they should bother developing for Xbox at all anymore. South of Midnight and Avowed are currently the remaining Xbox exclusives as of now. However, Phil has gone on to say that nothing is out of the question when heading to other platforms, meaning South of Midnight and Avowed could still head to other platforms such as the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo’s upcoming console, Switch 2.

During the Game Business Show podcast, co-founder Christopher Dring went on to say that some developers have spoken with him and question Xbox’s decision to bring all their first-party titles to other platforms. Developers want the competition between consoles. They are now questioning why they should develop for Xbox consoles at all anymore. Competition is ultimately good for business, but Xbox seems to be focusing on Game Pass and bringing titles to PlayStation and Nintendo.
