Battlefield 2042 Gains New Lease on Life with Fans Waiting for Battlefield 6

With the Battlefield 6 beta ending not that long ago, and with the hype continuing to grow with fans literally begging for more destructive combat action (myself included), it seems Battlefield 2042 has had a major revisit by fans of the long-standing military franchise, as fans are eager to get their hands on a Battlefield title that feels a little more modern than Battlefield V does.

Battlefield 2042, as we know, launched to a pretty rocky reception, ranging from game-breaking bugs to hilarious glitchy bugs where dead bodies would stretch out a hundred miles long. However, many fans have given the game a firm boost to its sales charts after almost four years post launch, and that is proof for the naysayers who say games are dead after a few years! With Battlefield 6 hyped to be the rising sun which could save the franchise, Battlefield 2042 is currently having its share of the limelight.

The current player count for the recent Battlefield title is sitting around 75,000 concurrent players, which is rivalling other online shooters. Who would’ve thought that this moment would never come? I certainly did not. This is the highest peak of concurrent players the rocky game has seen for a long, long time. As long as you don’t count the free weekend in October 2023, that had the entry sat at 107,376 concurrent players, but with the free weekend going, so did the players, unfortunately.

In a recent newsletter done by Alinea Analytics where it shows a study on the growth done by the team. The newsletter states that “Battlefield 2042 sold almost 500,000 on Steam last week. While the hype for the imminent Battlefield 6 explains part of this, the real reason for its spike is a HUGE price drop, 95% to $2.99, its cheapest price yet on Steam.” The letter continued on to say “EA often does massive fire sales like this on its legacy titles to give it revenues boost ahead of its financials. The $1.4 million in Steam revenues from Battlefield alone is nothing to sniff at. Expect more at the end of Q3.”

Whilst fans are desperately searching for their fix for Battlefield, I understand the hunger, but going to Battlefield 2042 searching for the addiction that the most anticipated title yet gave us, is a reach to be honest. Battlefield 6 is one of the best entries in the series that we will have had for a long time. Now I’m not downplaying any of the other additions. However, Battlefield 2042 in particular is a weak title compared to the one we have coming this year, so my advice? Just hold off a little longer, and hey, maybe even play some Battlefield 4 or get some quality time in with Bad Company. You won’t regret either of those! Then again, it’s only $2.99 right now.
