The director behind Avowed, which came out not so long ago from the studio which the great Fallout New Vegas hails from, Obsidian, Carrie Patel, has left the studio and Xbox Game Studios for an opportunity which has peered its head over the fence at Netflix Games.
In a post which landed on LinkedIn, Patel followed on by confirming this news herself and stated that she was joining Night School as a game director. Patel has left Obsidian after nearly 12 years, where at the side of working as a director she was a narrative co-lead and senior narrative designer. Night School is the studio behind Oxenfree and Oxenfree 2. It’s unknown what new game Patel will be working on as the studio hasn’t made any public announcements about future plans.

With Night School being tied in with Netflix Games, does this spell a good move? In my opinion, no, not at all. I can’t really see Netflix Games taking off to a huge extent. Does it do a job? Yes. Is it going to take the presidency over the big names? No. So Patel leaving a well-footed studio for a studio still trying to solidify a foothold is kind of bizarre, but that’s gaming!
Obsidian, however, are still sticking to the work of The Outer Worlds 2 with Brandon Adler directing it. The studio has also scheduled a special showcase event on June 8th following the Xbox Games Showcase, so we can’t wait to see what Obsidian has to offer at this!
As always, let us know what you think in the comments below. Do you think Patel has made a good move for her future? Or do you think that she has made a strange move where she could disappear into the sunset?
