Assassin’s Creed Shadows: 2nd Best Ubisoft Launch After Valhalla

Many people have been curious to see if Assassin’s Creed Shadows can meet fans’ expectations and hit the necessary numbers needed by Ubisoft to help pull them out of the GIANT mess they’ve created for themselves over the past few years. Star Wars Outlaws didn’t connect well with many fans. In fact, it was outsold by a title that was a year older than Outlaws, with Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Avatar Frontiers of Pandora had only sold 1.9 million copies as of January 2024 and where the hell is Beyond Good and Evil 2? There has been a long list of missteps for Ubisoft as of late and a lot riding on Assassin’s Creed Shadows to help, not only in sales, but to help build back the trust of fans once again.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched last week and Ubisoft was quick to reveal that AC Shadows surpassed 2 million players in 2 days on PC and Consoles. As of this time of writing, there are currently 40k players on Steam with an average score of 80 percent from 10k reviews. It’s a much-welcomed addition to the series and a much-needed “W” for Ubisoft. However, are there that many players on consoles playing AC Shadows? OR…is Ubisoft+ pulling in players for a month to leave the game behind later? I myself was contacted by a friend asking if he should pick up Ubisoft+ just to play AC Shadows instead of dropping the $100 dollar price tag on the game. The fear of the game not connecting with many fans of Ubisoft is very high. The truth about how well AC Shadows really did come down to sales, something Ubisoft has yet to reveal. The player count is great, but is it enough to break even?

“According to further data seen by VGC, Shadows delivered the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in the franchise’s history, behind only Valhalla”. So just maybe Ubisoft was able to put out a win here. I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows and from what I’ve played, I’m really enjoying it so far, but I have a lot ahead of me before I will be able to give the game a true score. The setting of Shadows certainly helped pull fans new and old back into the series. Will Shadows surpass Valhalla? It was a massive hit for Ubisoft, a unique title for the series, but nevertheless, one that connected a lot with fans. Will Shadows be able to do the same?

Let us know if you are playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows and are you enjoying it?
