A new challenger is making waves in the extraction shooter genre. With the king still pertaining to Escape from Tarkov as the most in-depth, hardcore extraction shooter on the market to-date, with its deep systems, player exploration and a massive learning curve, it is fondly looked upon as one of the best in the space. Hunt Showdown, Vigor and a new player from Sony and Bungie with Marathon, may just have some competition ahead of them.
In an earnings call, Nexcon says that Arc Raider’s second tech test “exceeded our expectations” considerably. With the press and players jumping in on the tech test, there is a lot of buzz around the new extraction shooter from The Finals developer Embark Studios.
On Nexcons’ latest earnings call they discussed Arc Raiders, saying “A large, global tech test conducted earlier this month significantly exceeded our expectations for key metrics, including wishlisting on Steam. Participation and early retention were particularly good in Western markets. With very limited advertising, the game was a top six most-watched games on Twitch and surpassed 20 million views on YouTube.
This is clearly the start of a beautiful friendship for Embark Studios to embrace what they’ve created and learn from the Tech Test. Nexcon also mentioned “The Embark team is now working to integrate player feedback and polish the game ahead of the launch.” A launch that still has no date. Or was it just leaked by Shroud? During a livestream while playing Doom: The Dark Ages, (our review can be found here). Shroud was asked what is he playing to pass the time until Arc Raiders? Shroud replied with “ya Arc Raiders is Thursday boys“.

This could mean a few things: a new Tech Test, or is there a possibility of a stealth drop? It seems unlikely of a stealth drop, unless Embark Studios has decided for an Early Access approach with the game. Though the game felt very polished, there certainly was more work to do.
