Activision Leadership Think Call of Duty is “Too Big to Fail” as Battlefield 6 Proves to be Gigantic
Activision leadership has chimed in to the Battlefield 6 whirlwind we are all caught up in right now and have seemingly brushed aside the upcoming title in the recently rocky franchise, and I say rocky because of Battlefield 2042, nobody wants that repeated. However, could this be Activision’s downfall? Let’s look at it together.
With Battlefield 6 proving to be the next major modern combat title to get excited for, and with how many people are enjoying the beta right now, it’s proving to be a huge hit. Sources who wish to remain anonymous as Activision does not authorize the leaking of internal conversations, have said that the leadership team, whilst keeping an eye closely on their counterpart, seem to be in a state of comfort with Call of Duty, as they have stated clearly that their flagship franchise is “too big to fail”.

An annual release for Call of Duty is on the schedule for the next four years at least, with the next title coming in the form of Black Ops 7, and whilst the team at Activision seem confident that their biggest franchise will remain profitable, which it undoubtedly will, it is hard not to analyze and scrutinize the long-standing giants of the FPS world as fans are becoming more and more skeptical of the upcoming releases with each new entry in the Call of Duty series; mostly thanks to micro-transactions and battle passes.
If we look at how Battlefield 6 is shaping up to the side of the current Call of Duty, it looks as if Battlefield might take a financial victory over Activision in this year’s virtual arms race. However, we’ve been here before. Back when Battlefield and Call of Duty were competing on a very level playing field, it seemed like a virtual boxing match on the gaming front as they went toe to toe for many years until DICE‘s franchise fell first to knockout blows in the form of battle passes and free to play mechanics from their main competitor. Recently, however, it seems that Call of Duty is bearing the weight of those championship rounds and is struggling to cope with the next bout of Battlefield.
For this year when we talk toe to toe matchups, it’s clearer than ever as BF6 is getting an apparent free-to-play Battle Royale. We’ve heard that somewhere before… Ahem, Warzone. Regardless of this, and regardless of what you may be a fan of, this year is shaping up to be a great year for us die-hard FPS shooter fans with a reveal for Black Ops 7 coming August 19th.

I will make one note, however, from a player’s point of view and an onlooker’s point of view. The recent Call of Duty title is becoming a stark reminder of the rinse and repeat business model that was recently discussed by Bungie’s ex-CEO, Harold Ryan, and it is very hard to overlook that Battlefield Studios are providing us with what looks to be an absolute bombshell this year. In my opinion, Activision should at least be on the edge of their seats for what the next title in DICE’s formula can brew up. With a return to modern realism, specialist classes, and large-scale warfare, it’s very likely that players who are tired of Call of Duty‘s cartoon character skins and ridiculous superhero mechanics will turn to the competition for a more grounded combat sim.
What do you guys think? Do you think Activision should be worried about the next Battlefield? Or should they stick to brushing it off? Let us know in the comments below!
