A Modern Take on a 90s Horror Shooter
Blood: Refreshed Supply from Nightdive Studios revives the iconic cult shooter with a slicker presentation while keeping its chaotic, gothic identity fully intact. This new version aims to preserve everything fans loved about the original while making it far more accessible on modern hardware. For the most part, it succeeds, though not without a few frustrations along the way.

Fun, Frenetic, but Weirdly Unbalanced
At its core, Blood is still a fast-paced boomer shooter filled with secret rooms, explosive encounters, and non-stop aggression. Nightdive’s remake retains all of that energy, but some rough edges show. While the weapon variety is impressive, ranging from flare guns to voodoo dolls to the iconic double-barrel shotgun, not all are equally satisfying to use.
The double-barrel shotgun in particular feels underpowered, sometimes requiring up to four close-range blasts to take down even basic enemies. This imbalance can make early encounters feel more punishing than they should be, especially for newcomers.
The difficulty overall leans sharper than expected. Even on standard settings, enemies hit hard, swarm often, and punish slow movement. Seasoned boomer shooter fans may love this, but casual players might get caught off guard. I often consider myself a boomer shooter vet and yet I died about 6 times on the first level.

Visuals & Atmosphere
Where Refreshed Supply shines brightest is in its monster designs. Each creature is memorable, twisted, and full of personality. The visual variety adds real charm to every level, keeping encounters fresh and helping the game feel lively.

What’s New in Refreshed Supply
Blood: Refreshed Supply brings the cult classic to consoles for the first time, rebuilt from the original source code with remastered cutscenes and major bug fixes. The game now supports up to 4K 120FPS on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, with fully customizable controls for both keyboard and gamepad players.
Modding has been expanded as well, offering compatibility with existing mods and new options like improved enemy behavior, weather effects, and other visual enhancements.
Multiplayer gets a strong upgrade with local split-screen and cross-platform online play for up to eight players, including co-op, PvP Bloodbath, and classic 4v4 Capture the Flag. Fans of retro authenticity will appreciate the inclusion of CD and MIDI music support.
This version also packs in the Plasma Pak and Cryptic Passage expansions, along with a new Vault containing cut-content levels, concept art, unused sprites, and behind-the-scenes material. New mission packs also add fresh life to the experience: Marrow is available now, with Death Wish arriving as a free update in early 2026.

Final Verdict: 7/10
Blood: Refreshed Supply is a stylish, faithful revival with strong atmosphere and standout creature designs. Despite some weapon balance issues and a surprisingly harsh difficulty curve, boomer shooter purists will feel right at home.
