Black Ops 7 Review: Highs, Lows, and a Franchise at a Crossroads

Campaign Trying to be deep, but ends up in the shallow end 4/10

Black Ops 7 swings for something deep and psychological, but the writing simply can’t support the weight of its ambition. The campaign frequently veers into territory that feels more like a supernatural thriller than a grounded Black Ops story. Monsters in a COD campaign? Come on people. It doesn’t fit the franchise identity at all. Felt more Resident Evil than Call Of Duty…

To its credit, the locations are visually impressive, and Michael Rooker returning as Harper is the shining star of an otherwise forgettable squad. Unfortunately, that’s where the praise ends. Enemy AI is shockingly poor, and the boss fights are some of the most tedious, out-of-place encounters the series has ever delivered. This mode feels like it would’ve been better suited as a standalone experimental game… not something bearing the Black Ops name.

Multiplayer Same old COD… but hey, the formula still works 8/10

My first day was a disaster—sweaty lobbies everywhere and one hacker dropping infinite bombardments. But the community convinced me to give it another shot, and I’m glad I did. Once the matchmaking and balancing smoothed out, multiplayer revealed itself as the dependable COD experience fans expect.

Toshin and Homestead stand out as truly exceptional maps—fast, clean, and fun. If you’ve enjoyed COD multiplayer over the last few years, you’ll feel right at home. It doesn’t reinvent the formula, but it doesn’t need to.

Zombies The mode carrying this game harder than a teammate with 3 revives 9/10

Zombies is where Black Ops 7 absolutely shines. Ashes of the Damned is the largest classic-style Zombies map to date, packed with exploration, secrets, and high replay value. The introduction of a usable vehicle sounds wrong on paper, but in practice it’s incredibly fun. There’s nothing like a Ravager clinging to your car door before you slam them into a wall.

Boss fights, Easter egg hunting, and an overall addictive loop have kept me coming back daily since launch. This is easily the strongest mode in the entire package. One I wont be putting down anytime soon. I am very much looking forward to what other maps they cook up.

Final Score 7/10
