Tribute Games and Dotemu are looking to throw back to the timeless brawler classics, which we used to sit side by side with our buddies to play as they look to bring two new characters into their roster for the upcoming arcade-style beat-em-up Cosmic Invasion. Characters unite under one banner, ranging from earthly heroes to cosmic legends to kick, punch, grapple and tear with evil forces which threaten humankind.
The team at Dotemu, a French developer which has brought us games such as Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredders Revenge and even Metal Slug Tactics, look to once again bring iconic, nostalgic heat to the forefront with yet another homage to side-scrolling classics. Not just that, but we got a fresh look at two new characters joining the roster to push back Annihilus and his other worldly forces. We got Black Panther and Cosmic Ghost Rider joining the team of heroes to once again rescue earth.
Cosmic Ghost Rider, you say? Yes I did. A fiery incarnation of the Punisher who was transformed into this formidable hero after signing a pact to avenge Earth’s devastation at the very hands of Thanos. Wielding chains, firearms and the flaming hell cycle, Cosmic Ghost Rider looks to burn his enemies to the ground whilst also burning across space’s lit roads. Taking on the character is the esteemed Brian Bloom, who will take the leather jacket and wear it proudly of our flame-engulfed friend.
And, of course, we can’t forget Wakanda’s own Black Panther. The vibranium-wearing, sonic dagger-wielding, martial arts master who gets ready to strike out of the shadows at any foe who looks to stand in the way of justice for Earth. Voiced by the very same actor who stepped into King T’Challa’s suit in Marvel Rivals and Avengers Assemble animated series!
If you haven’t already heard, well, now is the time to perk your ears up as Dotemu’s Marvel Cosmic Invasion is bringing another threat to Earth right to our very screens. Brawling in side-scrolling classic arcade style from the streets of New York right to the depths of Annihilus’ Negative Zone to tackle evil and stop the cosmic villain from bringing mass death and destruction to the homely planet our many heroes call Earth.
Not only this, but it is completely co-op friendly and supports four players drop in and drop out, so you and your buddies can play as your favourite heroes to tackle said villain in the many comic book realms. Not fancy playing with your pals? Not to worry, you can engage in the story by simply controlling a team of two heroes which you can tag between mid-battle! This gives you complete control over unique and distinct special team-up attacks to deal out dirt to the baddies standing in front of your star-lined path.
If you wasn’t hooked so far, let me fill in some blanks of what characters you will see in this space adventure. From classic Marvel stalwarts to new heroes, we have – Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, Phyla-Veil, Venom, Nova, She-Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, Beta Ray Bill and the iconic Silver Surfer! All 15 of which are fully voiced and ready and rearing to go. Who will you pick first?
I genuinely cannot wait for this title. Bringing classic retro arcade brawler action to a modern setting will be amazing! Tribute Games and Dotemu, who are already cemented in bringing classics to modern times, are looking to once again bring a present-day idea and situate it right at the heart of those arcade machine days when you used to slot coins in and wail through enemies! Games like this can fly under the radar, but with Marvel’s tag to it, I’m pretty sure it could gain traction and come with the heat onto PC, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch!
