UPDATE: No Rest For The Wicked | The Breach

Moon Studios the team behind Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, hosted their second Wicked Inside to give new details about their latest game update for No Rest for the Wicked and news about the studio.

There has been some wonder with Moon Studios about their future and their games. Recently, Take-Two, their parent company, decided to shut down the label, “Private Division.” In doing so, this brought forth worry about Moon Studios, which, at the time, was under Private Division for their publishing rights to No Rest for the Wicked. Moon Studios was excited to announce during their second Wicked Inside, they have made a deal with Take-Two to buy back the publishing rights of the IP and have become a “Fully Independent Studio” taking charge of their own future.  This is good news, not only for the studio, but for their fans as well.

“We have secured the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked, allowing us to execute our vision without restrictions.”

Welcome to The Breach

No Rest for the Wicked entered early access last year on April 18th, 2024 and has seen 1 update since. The Crucible update was released back in July. Now looking forward, the team is getting ready to launch their “biggest update they have ever shipped.” The Breach will release on April 30th, 2025 and allow fans to dive in for more content that will set up the update to follow. More on that in a minute!

The Breach will have over 11 thousand changes, add new lore, story campaign missions, new bosses, 2 new weapon types (Gauntlets and Wands), armor, factions, new areas to explore that will double in size compared to the locations we’ve played so far and more. BUT, this massive expansion comes with one problem for those currently playing the early access build of the game. SERVER WIPE! That’s right, on April 30th, all of our progress will be completely reset, sort of. Our legacy gameplay will remain, but in order to play the update, The Breach, we are forced to start a new game, having to play from the very beginning of the game on a new save.

The Breach update is to set up the next update to follow. This will see one feature fans have been asking for for some time: co-op! Moon studios wants to give fans something deeper and long-lasting to play when the co-op launches. This is why we will see The Breach, before we get the co-op feature that was supposed to come first.

To end the second Wicked Inside, we were teased with what would follow the co-op update. More improvements, expand Sacrament, new systems, farming, better housing, expand the Crucible and finish the story with more quests and bosses. And let’s not forget the reveal of Gareth Coker, former Ori composer, who will return for No Rest for the Wicked. We’ll be able to begin hearing his ambient music soon, starting with The Breach update.

No Rest for the Wicked is currently in Early Access on Steam with a full release planned to come to Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles at some point. Are you waiting for the full release? Or playing the early access build right now like me? Starting over is not a highlight, but it’s par for course with early access. As they say, there’s No Rest for the Wicked!
