I can already hear the collective sigh as you guys read the headline, but there has been some speculation that Rockstar could quite possibly delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 again. Trustworthy source, Tom Henderson, spoke with Insider Gaming in a recent interview about Marvel’s upcoming Wolverine and Hollow Knight: Silksong, where he mentioned his inside scoop.
Henderson stated that he thinks “Rockstar are just perfectionists”, which they are when it comes to releasing any game they put out. Read Dead Redemption 2, GTA V to name a few, hell even down to Bully back in the day. Rockstar likes to hit the nail on the head when it comes to releasing games with little to no issues. Henderson also carried on to say: “To me personally, I think were looking at October, then it allows them to obviously get the holiday sales.”
Now that point is right there – holiday sales, holiday sales, for example, Christmas sales are HUGE, and a game that releases around that time frame has some potential to earn some serious coin. Christmas, as we know, is when every solo gamer likes to treat themselves, or mum and dad’s look to buy their kiddies the next big game which brings a glowing grin to their children’s faces, so again, I wouldn’t blame Rockstar for doing this.
However, one point I will make is that GTA 6, is currently 8 months away and counting, so to me, surely Rockstar can’t possibly put together an analysis that shows them a delay would be beneficial yet, right? Unless they really need the delay to make the game S tier perfection, then I’d understand. However, as yet, there has been no movement on the ground to suggest any delay would be beneficial or even be in the pipeline as yet.
A May release would be perfect in my opinion. The last May release we got from Rockstar was for Max Payne 3 in 2012! If we look at RDR2 and GTA V, they both came late in the years they were released in, so as a fan who’s eager to get my hands on the next Rockstar title, I’m hoping it sticks to the May window. However, would I be cross if it moved to October? Absolutely not, with Henderson saying, “I mean, to be honest, I don’t think that it is going to release in May,” Backing on to a point he mentioned earlier, he followed this with, “You know, all the rumbling and so on just doesn’t seem to suggest it.”
So, with what has been said and with Henderson saying there are “rumblings” in the rumour mill for a potential delay, this coming after the recent delay to May 2026, would be pretty annoying to fans in general. But if you are a fan of this franchise, being true to how Rockstar looks to really nail down what they are doing, I don’t think many people would mind, more just being on the sidelines like a disappointed dad who “isn’t mad, just disappointed” at Rockstar.

However, we may get more clarification come November, if Rockstar needs to do the unimaginable. Stay faithful guys, and remain optimistic about the May release window! Because I know other studios are now putting pans on their heads if they were hoping to release titles around late 2026!
