GTA 6 May be the First ‘AAAAA’ Game According to Devolver Co-Founder

As we know, Grand Theft Auto 6 looks to be a huge release for Rockstar; one that all the game developers are hiding from, as multiple games have been shifted along in their release windows so that they have more of a chance to thrive out of GTA’s shadow. Further on that, according to one Devolver Co-Founder, the upcoming title from Rockstar looks to be an “AAAAA” game, and it is going to set a new high for the industry.

Nigel Lowrie, the Co-Founder of Devolver Digital, spoke with IGN about the new Hollow Knight Silksong, the game that has taken gaming stores by storm as it shut down digital storefronts such as Steam and the PlayStation store, while even the Xbox store struggled to keep up. However, Lowrie recently mentioned GTA 6 in an interview stating, “There are AAA games and then there’s AAAA games, and I’d argue that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the AAAAA game.” He continued to say, “it’s bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands.” He is 100% right, GTA 6 looks set to have a big impact on the gaming industry, with many developers and studios looking on in both price and performance.

With Silksong‘s release finally here, the long-awaited title is making waves with how it has taken the gaming world into its grip, making way for indie games in the grand scheme of things, it has been a tremendous launch for the studio behind it, Team Cherry. However, Rockstar’s upcoming title has the whole video game world by the collar, with more or less every conversation containing GTA within it when it comes to gaming. CEO of the Gamesight marketing platform, Adam Lieb, said in the same interview with IGN, “I would say that GTA for the last year and a half has been a part of almost every conversation around launch dates I have heard… the scope of that game is so large that it ends up competing with stuff that it otherwise wouldn’t.”

Lieb continued to make comment on GTA as he went on to say, “If you’re a shooter, you don’t care a lot about other things besides shooters… Generally, if you’re an FPS, that’s the genre you care about. But GTA has been this little bit of a black cloud that looms over everything.” Essentially, GTA has more than its current genre worried about its release, and in fact, it has been a big talking point, with many spokespeople speaking and referring to the title in many interviews away from it, always talking about how it could make a wave on the gaming scene with the outcome to be eagerly awaited.

To be frank about the whole GTA situation, it is absolutely absurd how big the game is and how much it has cost to put together, and with Rockstar and Take-Two keeping a tight lid on the title, I can only assume why. My assumption would be that the game is way, way too valuable to be giving away any little insights too early in the golden stages of releasing, with us being under a year out now. GTA 6 is set to release on the 26th of May 2026, and it has other studios shuddering at the thought of that release window, with many developers purposely delaying their games because of how overwhelming the GTA cloud is.

Price wise, we are all still yet to see how much Take-Two could charge us, and whether or not they’ll slap a tag of anywhere from 80 to 90 bucks for the hefty title, but really, there would be no surprise if it did cost that much with seemingly how much time and money they’ve put into the whole development process. It is rumoured to have a developmental budget of around 1–2 billion dollars, which is a big increase on the budget Rockstar had for Red Dead Redemption 2, which was $540 million. All I know is, I’m excited about it, but it could change the gaming industry upon release.

Are you guys excited about the GTA 6 release? I mean, of course you are, everyone is! The game is the most hyped title for a long time, and during my years of gaming I’ve never seen or heard as much hype surrounding a title, and that goes even beyond my years, I think.
