The recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase had a lot of interesting surprises as we had previously assumed, but none more personally exciting than the release date story trailer for Bloober Team‘s upcoming third-person sci-fi horror shooter, Cronos: The New Dawn!
The footage shown aided in further setting the tone for the darkly atmospheric new IP that looks to be equal parts Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, but with enough intrigue and innovation to set it apart from the other titans of the genre. Hot off the release of the overwhelming critical and commercial success of Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake, the daring devs have put a tremendous amount of care and focus into their upcoming title that will further cement their status as genre-defining creators.

Though October might have hit the mark a little better for a spooky season launch, the game is dropping on September 5th this year. I assume that Silent Hill 2 Remake will be leaving exclusivity and releasing on other platforms in October based on the pre-set timeline, so they likely don’t want to have to compete with themselves. Plus, if Xbox and Nintendo gamers enjoy Cronos: The New Dawn, it will serve as a bit of an advertisement for their similar game launching only a month later. This is currently all speculation, but it seems more likely now than ever.

Cronos: The New Dawn takes place in an alternate reality where humanity underwent a world-shattering event that led to the death of… well, most of humanity! The small number of survivors known as ‘Travelers’ have taken on a mission to go back in time and rescue key individuals who didn’t endure the cataclysm. The main issue lies in the fact that the people who didn’t survive have been turned into powerful, morphing, undead monstrosities, because… horror game.

The new gameplay and story trailers highlight the setting, action, enemies and grim vibe that will surely make for an absolutely astounding thriller that all fans of the genre can enjoy. I for one am incredibly eager to get my hands on the game and dive into the creepy chaos of a near-dead civilization, but we’ll have to wait until another month to give it a try. Multiple pre-order bonuses, including cosmetics and supplies have been announced ahead of launch, as well as 48-hour early access for those who pre-order the deluxe edition.
