After just over a decade, Rockstar Games Social Club has been shut down.
Rockstar Games insider, Videotechuk, has reported that the long-standing program has come to an end. The current URL for the website redirects chancers back to the home page of Rockstar.
The Social Club has served as a big central hub for fans of the Rockstar titles, allowing them to connect with friends and new people, track their progress and access exclusive content.
Videotechuk said, “Currently, viewing profiles, walls, photos, video viewing from users are gone, but could be part of new plans to introduce a new platform.” Hopefully, the big-hitting studio can open a new door to a better way for players to connect and share their screenshots and other content, because this will deliver a big blow to fans who engage in sharing across this platform.
Now, with this being said, Social Club was outdated for sure, with Videotechuk continuing on to say, “Social Club was incredibly outdated, with more cases of crews being hijacked and accounts being targeted easily,” which aims more to the studio creating that new platform as previously mentioned as Videotechuk also said “they’re most likely finally working on a new platform ready for Grand Theft Auto VI“.

As we know, Social Club wasn’t just a platform for sharing content, it also featured joining and creating crews in GTA, creating and sharing custom content such as GTA races and missions, and accessing the GTA online stock market. Whilst it created some ease of access for those who enjoyed creating those custom races, the service ultimately didn’t age well, as well as users reporting serious issues with it, as mentioned above!
Aside from all of this, Rockstar has been in the news recently regardless, with Rob Wiethoff, the voice of Red Dead Redemption’s John Marston, teasing “exciting news”. Admittedly later from the time of teasing said news, Wiethoff retracted that statement and admitted to having “misled” fans. This got fans jumping at the idea of an announcement surrounding a 60fps update and a Switch 2 port for Red Dead Redemption 2.
What do fans of the community engagement think should replace the Rockstar Games Social Club? Let us know in the comments below!
