Resident Evil: Survival Unit | Another New Resident Evil Game Was Just Announced!

Fans of the storied survival horror franchise have already been treated to the painfully exciting news of the upcoming mainline sequel Resident Evil Requiem (RE 9), but if that wasn’t enough, another new title in the spine-tingling series was just announced!

Capcom has recently worked in “close collaboration” with Aniplex Inc. and Joycity Corp. to design and develop a brand-new spin on the franchise’s formula, by creating a fresh, and frankly intriguing, Resident Evil mobile real-time strategy game for IOS and Android titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit. I know how strange that sounds and I was a little hesitant at first as well, but due to their partnership with Capcom, the studios promise to “ensure authenticity and quality,” and I’ve got faith in them to pull this off.

Aniplex is the studio best known for its work on a ton of popular anime games and tie-ins like Bleach, Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Grand Order, Ace Attorney, and even the console releases of the popular Demon Slayer game. Joycity has created a handful of successful mobile games like the Gunship Battle and War of Genesis series, as well as the massive Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, among others. Point being, these studios know how to make a fun and appealing mobile game, whether it’s a licensed property or not.

Details on Resident Evil: Survival Unit are sparse at present, with the only true revelation being that it will be a mobile strategy game as mentioned before. However, in the teaser video from former Square Enix producer, Final Fantasy brand manager, and co-creator of the incredibly popular Kingdom Hearts series Shinji Hashimoto, the game will be getting a deeper reveal with greater details in just a few days’ time. Eager fans can check this out over on their official website and/or YouTube channel on July 10th, 2025!

I’m a console player by nature, but for Resident Evil, I’d play it on an old shoe if it was at all possible. Previous mobile games in the series proved to be a lot of fun like Resident Evil: Degeneration (based loosely on the CGI film of the same name), Resident Evil 4 Mobile, Resident Evil Mercenaries Vs. (With characters and maps from RE 4 and RE 5), Resident Evil: The Missions (which featured classic gameplay, characters, and settings), as well as a handful of horror puzzle games and the like.

The studios have claimed that the new title will “appeal to both longtime fans and new players,” which with the state of the Resident Evil community at present, that is certainly up for debate. With that said, it’s going to receive a global release whenever it officially launches, and I’m sure we’ll find out the release date when the studios reveal more within the week.

As far as the teaser goes, fans only got a small taste of what to expect from the artwork revealed, so the project remains mostly mysterious, although if the tone of the art is anything to go on, it looks like some classic Resident Evil set pieces are likely to return. Beside a dark and stormy street, there is an advertising sign for Umbrella, complete their familiar and all-too ironic slogan “our business is life itself”.

Due to the fact that Umbrella went out of business around 2003 in the often-scattered timeline of the Resident Evil games, it’s safe to assume that this title may be taking fans back in time to a pre-destroyed Raccoon City. If not, then it may tie in with the plot of the upcoming sequel Resident Evil Requiem, but that remains to be seen. I’m just so excited and can’t help but speculate, but the official reveals are coming very soon so I need to just be patient for now.

Regardless, I am optimistic for whatever Aniplex and Joycity are cooking up with the expert assistance of Capcom as they focus on “reimagining the survival horror universe”. If it’s a free-to-play that’s jam packed with micro-transactions, I think I’ll pass. If it’s a legitimate quality game that only requires payment for additional DLC down the line… well, that’s more my speed.

I think this will, at the very least, be worth checking out when details are officially revealed on July 10th at 6pm EDT. The links are here for the official WEBSITE and YOUTUBE. Cross your fingers and check back in with us once more details are out!
