With Capcom’s Spotlight game showcase now over, many fans are abuzz with excitement and increased anticipation for some of their favorite returning titles, and perhaps even a new darling from the developer.
The roughly 40-minute presentation brought a handful of updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Street Fighter 6, Capcom’s newest IP Pragmata, and of course my most anticipated game right now, Resident Evil Requiem. Each segment featured a wealth of new information about each of their most intriguing upcoming titles, as well as a wide variety of new and exciting content coming to some of their currently available games.
Pragmata kicked things off with a deeper look into what the fascinating upcoming sci-fi action game’s unique and compelling combat system has to offer. This was followed by a glimpse at some of the cool new costumes and a fan-favorite fighter addition to Street Fighter 6‘s lineup. Next up was one of my favorite games from 2024, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a free update for all players, including those on the newly released Nintendo Switch 2.
Then came, in my humble opinion, the most important segment of the Spotlight showcase where key members of the Resident Evil Requiem team provided some behind-the-scenes insights into development and a major reveal that I’ll cover shortly. Then the Monster Hunter Wilds team finished out the broadcast with a great deal of reveals regarding what hunters have to look forward to when Title Update 2 launches on June 30th, which included a handful of new monsters, a fresh batch of challenges, a new seasonal event, and much more that I’ll more deeply detail below.
I’m going to follow the order of the showcase to keep things organized because trust me, even though the presentation was only about 40 minutes, they did not waste any time and there is quite a lot to cover here.

First off, new Pragmata gameplay showed off an intriguing glimpse into its thrilling combination of puzzle-infused hacking and third-person combat that seems to rely on the player’s keen attention and clever strategizing. Pragmata is set in the near future after humanity has discovered a new type of ore that allows for the development of “Lunafilament,” a material that can replicate just about anything. All of a sudden, Earth loses contact with the space station that is dedicated to researching this stuff, and just like that, that’s where we come in.
Taking on the role of Hugh Williams, players will be dispatched to the moon as part of an investigation team looking into the lost contact. A lunar quake hits the facility during the investigation and Hugh gets separated from the rest of his team and is left unconscious and injured. Hugh gets rescued by a Pragmata that he names Diana, a unique android with the appearance of a young girl that was created with, you guessed it, Lunafilament. The unlikely pair team up to face off against the station’s many rampaging robots and work together utilizing Diana’s skills for hacking and Hugh’s skills with his arsenal of high-tech weaponry to survive long enough to find a way back to Earth.
The gameplay showed an almost Alan Wake inspired combat mechanic, but instead of burning off the darkness with directed light, in Pragmata the player will have to use Diana’s hacking capabilities in tenses combat encounters to render the attacking bots vulnerable so that Hugh can engage them directly with his weaponry. These hacking mechanics will also be found useful in the exploration segments of the game, using Diana’s skills to remove barriers and accessing systems that would otherwise impede the player’s progress.

Next up were the featured updates for the newest entry in Capcom’s classic competitive fighting series Street Fighter 6. Sagat, the reigning emperor of Muay Thai is hitting the streets once again, this time joining the already stacked lineup of fighters on August 5th. Players are going to be headed to Thailand to take in the breathtaking scenery, perhaps recognize some familiar features, and oh yeah… FIGHT! Sagat will be featured as the newest Master in World Tour, giving players the opportunity to visit and learn from him, while also being treated to the Sagat Arrives Fighting Pass on July 4th, which promises to be filled with Sagat-inspired content like EX colors for Ryu and Ken. The showcase only showed a brief teaser for the fan-favorite fighter, but an upcoming gameplay trailer is right around the corner.
Perhaps on an even more exciting note for many fans of the game, Cammy, Chun-Li, Jamie, Kimberly, Manon, Luke, and A.K.I. will all be getting steamy, stylish, Summer swimwear, with the rest of the fighting roster’s costumes coming later down the line. After this was revealed, the competitive Street Fighter 6 Capcom Pro Tour was highlighted, showcasing the upcoming Capcom Cup 12 that will be taking place March 11th-15th next year. This competition of fighters will once again return to the historic Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan, and for the third year in a row will feature a $1 million-dollar Grand Prize!

Following that were some anniversary bonuses from the critically acclaimed Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. Recently receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 release, the heavily stylized and wildly fun sword-swinging action title will be treating fans to a batch of free content! The first release titled “Otherworldly Venture,” this content will take players on a journey into a mysterious and unpredictable realm beyond the torii gates. It seems to function as a bit of a roguelike wave mode, with endless enemies to battle, randomized upgrades, and a score counter to track the player’s progress as they dive into the new challenge ahead.
If that’s not enough, next month the game will be celebrating its one-year anniversary with the “Yasichi Waves” Mazo Talisman, which when equipped will remix certain songs from the game’s soundtrack into retro-inspired 8-bit tracks, which from the brief taste shown during the Spotlight, it’s a pretty awesome edition that somehow blends perfectly with the already excellent game.
Release Date: July 19, 2024 (All platforms) / June 5, 2025 (Nintendo Switch 2)

Now for the really cool part! The dev team behind Resident Evil Requiem showed of some new gameplay footage to the public, and oh baby was it pretty! Pitched as the most immersive mainline entry in the series, Requiem intends to lean far more into the horror aspects of the franchise while both introducing new characters and environments, as well as giving players the chance to revisit some familiar stomping grounds and perhaps get some further insight into other beloved characters.
Director Koshi Nakanishi, Art Director Tomonori Takano, and Producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa, took the stage to better explain what players can look forward to from the upcoming sequel that they say will be fueled by “addictive fear,” with horror at the heart of its gameplay and narrative direction. The team revealed more details about Grace Ashcroft, FBI intelligence analyst, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, and Requiem‘s new protagonist. Grace is a bit on the introverted side and is fairly jumpy and easily spooked. This type of character hasn’t been explored much in the Resident Evil series, as the overwhelming majority of the games’ protagonists have been mostly brave, specially trained, and ready for action. Grace on the other hand is more timid and meek, though trained with firearms as per protocol for her position within the FBI, she will likely rely more on her analytical skills of rational reasoning and deduction to handle whatever threats and obstacles are thrown her way.
This also means that the rumors of the always popular Leon Scott Kennedy returning as a protagonist in Requiem isn’t going to happen, though not for the reasons you may think. It was revealed that the team had initially considered Leon’s inclusion, but for a more horror focused direction with the upcoming sequel, it wouldn’t work trying to convince players that Leon “Where’s Everyone Going? Bingo?” Kennedy is afraid of anything after all of the bioweapons and general atrocities he’s encountered up to this point. So, maybe next time we’ll see a return of some of the pretty boy special agent, but for now we get to explore someone new. Director Koshi Nakanishi explained the decision by stating:
“We always thought about making Leon the protagonist but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn’t jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So, he’s actually quite a bad match for horror.”
Utilizing the gorgeous and ever impressive RE Engine, the team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the level of realism and detail is unprecedented, including incredible animations and graphical nuances that will bring the characters, the enemies, and the world to life with an immersion like no other in the series. The gameplay showed off during the Spotlight featured the different camera perspectives that the player will be able to choose from, this time including the choice between both first-person and third-person. As a very active member in the Resident Evil fan community, camera perspective in the series is something that players have been divided over for years, and now the option will be provided from the jump. Good on Capcom, I say! Now we just need to convince them to add fixed-camera back into the mix, but perhaps I’m being too greedy.
As previously revealed at Summer Game Fest, Resident Evil Requiem will take place about 30 years after the targeted destruction of Raccoon City to contain the viral outbreak. Requiem is meant to be somewhat of a eulogy for the characters who either lost their lives or were changed forever due to the initial outbreak, and I’m hoping that in an effort to further honor these characters, Capcom will release Resident Evil Outbreak remakes using some of the assets from their other RE Engine sequels and remakes. With players finally getting to return to the place where it all began, Raccoon City, and with a new playable character who is a direct relation to one of the Outbreak protagonists, hype will be at an all-time high around the Outbreak games and now would be the perfect time to strike while the iron is hot! But I digress…

Finally, the showcase was wrapped up with a large number of reveals from the Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 that releases on June 30th. First off, I think it’s best to mention the reason everyone wanted to read this section; Yes, there are new monsters coming to the game! Lagiacrus makes its mighty return for the first time since its appearance in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Director Yuya Tokuda was practically giddy when sharing the news that one of the legendary monsters that he helped design was returning to the franchise, and how the team has incorporated underwater actions that will create for some unique and memorable moments when battling this returning leviathan.
Along with Lagiacrus comes Seregios, a quick and agile wyvern that first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. This dominating force will challenge hunters to truly utilize every ounce of strategy and quick reflexes that they can muster if they intend on surviving and eventually besting this powerful beast. After completing their accompanying main missions, both of these fearsome foes will appear as 8 star Tempered monsters that will be available for hunters at HR41 and above.
It was also revealed that on July 30th, Arch-tempered Uth Duna will arive as a limited-time Event Quest and a Free Challenge Quest and will reward successful hunters with the Uth Duna y and Felyne Uth Duna y armor sets. I’ve never met a hunter that doesn’t love showing off their new event gear! While we’re on the subject of fashion hunters, I’m sure they’ll be tickled to know that once Title Update 2 drops, once a hunter has crafted the final weapon in a tree, the powerful end-game Rarity 8 Artian weapons and High-Rank Palico weapons will provide their designs as Layered Weapons. Yes, I know, I like playing dress-up as much as the next fashion hunter, it’s kind of the best part.
Once hunters have geared up and layered their look however they so please, they will now be able to enhance their fit and show off to other jealous hunters with the new photo mode options including filter effects and brightness settings, among others like hiding their Palico, Seikret, Handler, and more in the Character Display tab. Hunters are also getting some new support options including a Sword & Shield wielding Support Hunter named Mina who will be joining from the Vespae Unit, and the inquisitive biologist Erik who can fill in for Alma as the Avis unit’s Handler. The new update also brings with it the choice of which Support Hunters can be summoned to form the ideal party to suit the hunter’s preferred playstyle.
Oh, and we can’t forget that on July 23rd, hunters are going to get to take part in The Festival of Accord: Flamefete, a new seasonal celebration that will include limited-time Grand Hub meals and décor, new equipment, gestures, and more. It’s a Monster Hunter seasonal event folks, you know the drill, they’re going to go all out as always! Title Update 2 will also be introducing some new free and paid DLC including a handful of dance gestures, cosmetic packs, and more. Lastly, in perhaps one of the most bizarre and somehow fitting cross-promotions in the company’s storied history, Capcom’s previously sold-out Fender Monster Hunter Rathalos Red Telecaster is coming to the game on August 27th as a new gesture that’s obtainable through completion of an upcoming limited-time Event Quest.
