Recent rumors suggest that Horizon 3 will launch in 2027, but before the release of the sequel, fans may be getting their hands on an online multiplayer Horizon game first.
Though there were previous indications that the game was canceled, it appears that Guerrilla Games’ next big project is more than likely a Horizon multiplayer title, with development supposedly progressing on both this somewhat mysterious multiplayer game as well as Horizon 3, potentially setting the devs up to release a definitive trilogy.

The series has sold more than 30 million copies and continues to find new fans, and has proven itself as a successful addition to Sony’s story-driven lineup. There is also a Horizon film adaptation underway, which will assuredly ignite interest and bring more fans to the games similar to how the Witcher and Fallout shows led to further sales of the games.
A job listing for Guerilla Games earlier this year indicated that the company was looking to create a Horizon multiplayer game that is intended to: “Bring over 1 million players.” Whether or not the game is currently under development is still rumored, though it seems like a safe bet that production is well underway and that the devs have hope that it will be well-received enough to garner new fans.

As far as Horizon 3 is concerned, according to an X post from TCMF Games, it is currently in development and will be based around Nemesis, with a potential launch in 2027. It is also suggested that it may be a PS6 launch title as well but mentioned that Horizon online will arrive first.
With the popular robot dinosaur fighting action-adventure PlayStation title remaining popular with fans, and a strong likelihood of increased hype brought on by the upcoming movie as well as the rumored multiplayer mode, I think the franchise will continue to grow and evolve into a better version of itself as more fans take up Aloy’s bow and experience the unique experience.
Are you excited for a possible multiplayer title? Do you think single player game series’ should stay single player throughout all iterations? Do you think the movie is a good idea to draw in more fans, or a possible misstep that could sour the opinions of fans new and old? I’m genuinely curious how people feel about these games and to see the direction Guerilla Games is going to take them.
