Nintendo Leaves Out One Massively Requested Feature for the Nintendo Switch 2

If you have been playing your games on the PlayStation or Xbox consoles for some time, there is one feature that POP’s on those platforms that Nintendo continues to leave out of their next-generation console.

There will not be a dedicated Trophy or Achievement system for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 stated by Nintendo’s vice president of player and product experience, Bill Trinen. When asked by Polygon about a system-wide achievement platform for the Switch 2, Bill said, “Nope, it will be up to the developers to implement their own achievement system into the game.”

Nintendo will, however, add two achievement systems for titles, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild via the Nintendo app, when the Switch 2 launches on June 5th.

I literally just scratched my head. I understand that not everyone is a trophy or achievement hunter. However, there are plenty of players out there who are. Why not introduce such a popular system to your platform that will keep players longer on your device? Feature that carrot at the end of the stick that will have players chasing the next achievement to completely finish the game and have something to show off is a big deal for many of us in this day and age.

Just another weird decision from Nintendo once again. There is certainly a lot going for the Switch 2, but the decision to leave out a dedicated trophy or achievement system doesn’t add up. Forcing players to go to the mobile app, or having developers add them to the game instead of a system-wide platform, is another misstep from Nintendo. When James Bond 007 from IOI launches, the game will have PS5 Trophies and Xbox Achievements. Why not allow your new platform to feature something similar to entice players to stay just a little bit longer on the Switch 2?
